Could be all that Stainless steel up there Steve. At least you are not in Bakewell!!
Seriously, this is fairly common with non-laacquered Solid Colours... used to use a bit of T Cut occaisionally when I had white cars in the 70's (Opel Manta & Ford Crapi)
