Hi all,

Anyone done the above and gone full stage 2 MRC with i/c, decat and cold air intake?

Wondered what the dyno print looks like and how the power is delivered across the rev range vs my current stage 2 which is 460HP / 663nm

Any info / advise is appreciated

TIA

Welcome Gaz! :)

At the moment, on this forum, B9 tuning isn't that common. I think we have the b8.5 pretty much covered but very little on the B9.

But I have seen Vancity tuning a B9 S5 and did a comparison with a cat and decat and the car lost power! I think this was due to back pressure etc, but I don't know if the car was remapped after the decat as a revised tune could alter the way the engine/ECU reacts to back pressure and take advantage of it!?

Depending on the IC, these can only restore power lost due to high IATs, if you don't suffer with high IATs, then the IC won't actually increase power.

CAI are discussed a lot, sometimes you get 1bhp, sometimes you get 15bhp, depends on setup and how good yours is/OEM setup.

I have OEM air box, ITG filter and extra holes in the box, larger intake pipe, 187mm pulley and got 480bhp (B8.5).

Thanks Dave

Certainly strong numbers you have and i'm debating if i should spend more money on an MRC tune vs the current XXXX tune where the MRC tune can yield around 100nm more torque but wanted to see how that power was delivered and if anyone had a dyno print they could share with me?

The torque curve on my current tune builds up so a smooth torque curve between 2.5k-3k rpm up to about 4.6k then tails off vs some i have seen get to peak torque a lot earlier and then power decreased from say 3k rpm onwards IIRC

My car has a wagner i/c and a decat as well as cold air intake so not sure if i should spunk more money on her for more torque, as how this is delivered across the rev range is different between tuners.

Thanks

Ah, ok, so you are already at stage 2, but seen MRC's figures and thought you might get more of your car just from MRC's tune?

Yeah, that's the thing, each car varies, the fuel, the dyno etc etc Be interesting to see if an MRC car does the same figures on another dyno and vice versa. Mine is a More-bhp tune based in Crewe and we compared print outs with another member with an MRC tune. Power was about the same and torque a bit more, but peak power and torque was slightly different. The exact same make and model of car might not give the same results with the same mods.

I was in the same mind as you when I had my 3.0tdi. I had a More-bhp tune on that and it got 310bhp from just a map, but Bobby Singh can get 330bhp. It depends if you are number chasing and not bothered about the money, depends on your decision. Depends if that bit extra is worth paying the money for another Tuner's map, but it will be a 'new' map price! MRC won't say, oh as you have a stage 2 tune, it'll be £100, it will be the full price as if tuning from stock. I think MRC's remap with gearbox map is around £700 - is it worth it!?

Hi Gaz, welcome aboard. I have probably visited Mrc more than most people who use this site and over the last 7 years am now taking my 3rd Audi to them.
I picked my B9 up on the 06th Jan and was at Mrc on 19th Jan and will be back there again on the 31st March for more work on my B9.
My car is currently stage 1 and had another reputable mappers tune on it which produced 37 more bhp than it was stock .
After a stage 1mrc tune it produced a further 24 bhp more bhp(511ps) but the torque figures they gained were amazing.
My old B8.5 S5 had 600nm , my B9 Rs5 now has over 800+nm.
Price wise for a stage 1 remap at Mrc you are looking at £1050 for engine and gear box , but if you do consider it , send me a message and we will have a chat beforehand.
Is it worth it? 🤔 when you see all of the Best Audi tuners awards trophies and others in there reception. You decide

When I say is it worth it, I mean yes MRC maps are worth it, just is it worth it spending a grand on top of your current tune costs for the extra that MRC may give you on top of your current tune. :)

If you hadn't already had a stage map, then yes defo go for the MRC stage 2 tune, just is £1000 worth it for 100Nm (possibly peak, not overall, could depend on specific mods and actual bolt parts) and 20bhp, if there is much of a difference in bhp? Yes there is the power delivery which can also feel better.

I'm not trying to say, no point, just assess the 'actual' drive/performance difference over your current tune, and what you want from the feel of how the power is made and where in the revs etc is, that's where I'm discussing the 'worth it' or not. :) If MRC were closer to me and prices were lower, I would have gone for the MRC tune.

We have compared an MRC graph with my More-BHP graph, MRC BHP is about the same and torque at bottom end is 15Nm more, +8Nm peak and top end is +5Nm, so pretty much similar, but the MRC car does have a slightly larger pulley, so this might be the extra!? Not the tune?

See if MRC will give you a stage 2 graph, if not, it's s case of if you want the ultimate numbers and splurge the cash on the extra digits on top of your map. :)

Those turbos do give impressive torque figures over the superchargers! :D

The actual bhp figures do seem to limited on the B9 RS, unless you start adding bolt-ons. Have you got any spoilers on the 'more work'? :)

Thanks for your comments and i have been to MRC twice before with my S3 8V and they are very good i know :)
Just trying to justify the spend over another £1k for a slightly different tune that's all and the current tune / power is good and builds between 3k-4.5k and then tails off vs another tuner that may reach peak earlier and then holds / tails off through rev range so different delivery of power..

If your happy with the way your car drives & performs then save your money and enjoy it is my advice.
I had mine remapped simply because I figured Mrc would do a better job than Lichfield and they clearly have.
Torque arrives at 2300 rpm and just keeps on coming and there is so much of it . (y)
