Hi all. Just had the sports diff warning light appear over the last week or so. Had local indy garage read the error codes and see J492 is the culprit. I've found a number of threads and recent one suggests the control unit can be sourced and installed pretty easily (thread here). Indy garage assumed programming would be required so referred me to Audi. So, just waiting for Audi to price it up...in the meantime, anyone familiar with looking at error codes? Wondering what the Check DTC Memory - Intermittent message means.

Do you have a full scan?
The "013 - Check DTC Memory" is usually raised by one module because it is being limited by a fault in another module, in this case J492. But if J492 is not itself reporting a fault it might mean that the nature of the failure is preventing it from doing so.

AFAIK it was a full scan but can't be certain. At very least I'll bring to Audi garage and get it assessed there. I don't have access to vag cable where I live so can't repeat the checks.

I want to inspect the actual controller because I've read that the unit can leak over time or connections can become compromised. Would you happen to know where I should look?

In a B8 sportback I understand that its in the "bulge" on the right of the boot area.

Good stuff. Found a diagram online also just now. Think I'm confusing myself though...that unit doesn't look like it's in a location that would get wet. I'll check it out regardless. Thanks Dippy.
