Hi guys, first time I've had to post as I can't find anything on this strange fault I've got.
My b8 S5 has been stood nearly 12 months and I had to boost her alive, trickle charged the battery to full and it seems to be holding charge well, battery is 2.5 years old, but the Speedo the rev counter and fuel gauge do not work the temp gauge and centre screen are fine. All the light behind gauge work fine. Just the needles. Any one seen this before and any ideas before I pull it out and try to get it repaired?
Thanks.

Do you have VCDS or a suitable code reader? Worth checking for error codes before you start ripping it apart

Mate, welcome. You need to hook up a good reader so visit an indi VAG specialist and he should have VCDS. The battery needs to be 100% as otherwise you can have LOADS of faults.

Have I understood it correctly that the car has not had any charging at all for nearly 12 months? What method of measurement have you used to determine that the battery is now holding charge? If car batteries are allowed to deep discharge then permanent damage "can" result. The electronics in these cars can misbehave if the voltage is too low.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes you are correct the front coil springs went at the same time as some major house renovations so it just sat with no charge terrible way to treat the car I know. I have a tracker which reads battery level currently at 12.55v drops to around 11.5 after a couple of days. Not sure if that's good or bad to be honest but that's the only unit of measure I have, I think I will get a new battery fitted and see from there, I will update if I get to the bottom of it.
