I am sure these threads are skeptical because of theft, but that's not the case here. I just bought my first Audi S5 and it only came with 1 key. I need to get a 2nd key made for my wife, but I want to do it the most cost effective way. Can you get the Amazon deal and take it to the deal to have it programmed? Is the key too specific to take a chance?

Thanks for the help...

You may find that the dealer shares the skepticism, jt. I know my local dealer won’t touch a key not sourced from them, but YMMV. If I was in your shoes, I’d source a new key from the dealer, have them wipe ALL the keys from the car’s memory, and recode the lot. You’ll have to wear your best S-E grin as they rip money out of you for the privilege, but the peace of mind knowing that you’re in possession of the only keys that will open the car is probably worth it. Sobbing over the outrageous cost is permitted, by the way, but decorum requires that you try to limit yourself to one or two manly sniffles...

Thank you, Julian and Kontra. I figured as much. Dealers are a love hate relationship; they are needed to ensure quality work, but they also know that and charge a $$Hhh ton. I will go this route...(Side note: Comment: "You’ll have to wear your best S-E grin as they rip money out of you for the privilege". LOL)

Decided to go with the dealer since I am "dealing" with a repair issue (separate thread on here) not advised before buying. It's all working out, but total cost is 515.00 for a new original S5 key/fob and programming. Just wanted to close this question out. Thanks, all

Yesterday I used my spare key for the first time in over a year to check it was still working. It wouldn't operate the central locking remotely until after I had used it in the ignition once to start the car after which it worked fine in all functions and still does more info. Is this normal if a key hasn't been used for a while ?
