As I drove off to work this morning I thought the exhaust sounded a little louder than usual... only then I noticed the 6" hole in the rear side window. It's pitch black when I leave home, half asleep...

Anyway, I'm getting it fixed tomorrow at Autoglass.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Any advice on what to look out for with the repair? I can't imagine they've ever fixed A/S5 side windows before. They are bonded onto the bodywork so require a workshop fit.

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had my driver's side window replaced a few years back (it's a Saturn, not an Audi) and the replacement window was thinner than the original, as far as I could tell. So it's not as substantial and therefore not as sturdy. Although since this window doesn't roll down perhaps it's not as big of an issue?

Make sure they use OEM is all I can say.

+1 I would insist on OEM and if possible try to get the numbers to match up. Sorry to hear this pain for you.

Cheers

Abe, RG,

Thanks for your quick replies. I would not have thought of checking for OEM.

They had a genuine Audi part, so all's well. Took the guy an hour, including having to take the whole door seal off.

Thanks again.

Well done, had a similar prob in 1994 when some form of lowlife broke into my wifes week old Golf Gti. Autoglass actually fitted a non OEM piece of glass. After much toing and froing Ins co agreed to replace and sourced OEM with same batch numbers on it too. It is worth it as if you try to sell some fussy bugger (like me) will soon spot it!!Cheers..RG
