Hello
I have a 2011 S5 that has developed a creak in the front lhs suspension. It doesn't happen all the time but happens when the car is going over a bumpy surface with light brake pressure applied. Going over the same surface with no braking or hard braking does not cause the noise.
Audi have taken a look and have said it might be the lower ball joint. I asked the technician to give me an indication of how likely that would fix it on a scale of 1-10 and he refused to bet. Audi want approx £400 to replace the joint, but I am reluctant to to go ahead with replacing bits with no guarantee of a fix.
I have uploaded an audio file so you can hear the sound Audi suspension
I have edited the file removing part of the track where there is no creaking. If anyone has heard the noise before and knows what it is that would be great
Thanks a lot
John

Your noise sounds similar to the noise in this video @2:30

I replaced few components on my suspension about 6 months ago and nothing sounded like that. I still have annoying sound if i go over a speed bumps bump unable to pinpoint the fault.

Audi not being very clear here because there are several ball joint on the front. I can think of at least 3. Each side has 2 lower control arms and also the tie rod.
There is also 2 more each side on the upper smaller arms.
Its unlikely Audi would replace any of the lower control arms for that price as Audi sell each arm for £150+.
At price they maybe quoted the tie rods.

TBH if a 10 year old car is still on original suspension there will be bushes and ball joints failed. Your best option would be to try a Audi specialist but not the local generic garages.

Mate, when a car is 10 years old then there are always gonna be creak and stuff. I suggest a VAG specialist and go part by part to see the changes.

You can start by spraying one bushing with silicone lube then do a test drive. If the creaking goes away, then it's that particular bushing that needs replacement.
