This is just a post to give back to the community. I'm not looking for an answer as I've solved the problem now (I think).
I have a 2014 S5 cabriolet and had been getting water in the boot after heavy rain. I had also noticed om opening the boot that water was sloshing around inside the bootlid and would dribble out the drain holes when the bootlid was open. I followed a number of threads on this site but they all seemed to relate to slightly different issues, which is why I thought I'd post my experience. The leak only seemed to be into the main part of the boot and not into the side compartments as seems to be the problem discussed in some of the other threads.
Anyway, I think I've tracked the problem down and solved it. I removed both light clusters. The gaskets did have some slight evidence of water ingress (narrow tracking of dirt/limescale across the face of the gasket). It doesn't feel like that would have explained the quantity of water or the place it ended up - but water leaks can be tricky thinks the track down. I cleaned the rubber gaskets and the mating surfaces and then very lightly greased the gaskets with Vaseline before refitting. It hasn't rained much since I did this so I can't be sure that it's fixed but it hasn't happened since.
