hi, just like to say this is the best forum iv come across regarding the a5.

was hoping someone here could help me with this problem.

bought an a5 1.8t sport without the xenon and led drl's. decided to retrofit the xenon headlights.

what iv done so far is bought and fitted genuine complete xenon headlights inc the original bulbs/ballasts. the wiring was different so i got the wiring adapter from kufatec ( german company ). got it all fitted and the wiring done. so far the indicators work fine, and the xenons come on but 1 flickers, leds work, no high beam, no self levelling. was told it would need vagcom programming, to tell the central electronics module that xenons are fitted. iv gave it to a local garage to programme the lights but failed ( i think they did'nt know what settings to change ). anyone with vagcom knowledge know which settings to change or know of anyone who can do this in west yorkshire area.
any useful info would help.
thanks

Welcome to the forum K_C,

Congrats on getting as far as you have.

I think you should PM REB_A5, he will be your closest experienced VAG COM user for the A5, he has helped a lot other members already so maybe he can compare the 2 cars settings and see where the problem is.

He's a regular so should spot this thread. But could be worth nudging him with a quick PM :D

hi robb, thanks for the info, iv sent REB_A5 a message, trying to get to the bottom of this.

only thought retrofit was possible as alot of people have done this type of mod to other audi's, bmw etc. i think its only a matter of coding which im trying to sort out. if i get this working will give step by step instructions.

thanks

Hi

I'm sure some people have done this. I've had a search but cant find any answers. Will be good to have a step by step instructions for the unfortunate souls who get court out by the UK Sport model no longer having the Xenon/DRL's as standard on any models.

Hope you get it sorted soon mate, should be a criminal offense to order an A/S5 without the Xenon/DRL option.

hi, your right about the xenons/drl's, its the audi trademark which should come with all A5's. only reason was i got my 08 a5 1.8tfsi sport at a good price. ( phantom black, 19" y wheels, silver leather, b&o )

i think S5 in sprint blue, black leather looks brilliant. since iv had my a5 my brother has changed his mind. he was getting a 07 rs4 sprint blue but is now thinking S5 with milltek exhaust should be as quick.

A5/S5 are the best looking coupes around personally.

this forum is a valueble source of knowledge regarding all aspects of this car. should have been a member long before.

thanks

I have done the conversion on my B8 A4. I have figured out the coding via brute force by testing coding from the VCDS pdf writeup posted on this forum. I believe kufatec sells a whole kit lights + including the wiring harness.

Hope everyone credits me for figuring it out

Go into 09 Central Electronics

Click on Coding-07

Select Long Coding Helper

1) Change the first byte to 26 (Xenons will turn on properly after this)

2) Check Byte 02 Bit 4 (LED strip as DRL)

3) Change byte 14 and 15 to 5D (For the hi-beam to work)

Here you can search in my database, with data from more than 12000 ECU's, scanned with VCDS.

In this website can you compare the long codes from different cars for 09-Centralelectric Electrinics , in our case for LED Xenon headligts retrofit.

I have attached a picture from an collection of long codes from A4 B8 - 09 Centralelectric modul.

Hope everyone credits me for figuring it out

QGmika says to change Byte 14 and 15 to 5D.

If you will see the database, the factory original codes for cars with LED Xenon headlights ( codes which begin with 26 = LED Xenon headlights )

byte 14 and 15 = 1D 0D

byte 14 = 1D

byte 15 = 0D

And the codes WITHOUT LED Xenon headlights ( which begin with 69 ), byte 14 and 15 = 5F 5F

My personal coding for A4 B8 ( without LED Xenon headlights - yet ) it's :

Coding: 690040B10014A7000001000300005F5F0F1C020800000141000000

So the question it's :

I need to change byte 14 and 15 to : 5D

or to change :

byte 14 = 1D

byte 15 = 0D

as the original factory codes is it ?

01011101 = 5D byte 14/15
00011101 = 1D byte 14
00001101 = 0D byte 15

Hi to everyone. Is there any update regarding retrofiting Xenon+DRL in A5 with Halogens? As far as i understand K_C is almost there but there is not the complete guidance regarding retrofiting these headlights. I have received my oem headlamps_DRL, Ballasts, Bulbs, adapter (kufatec), autoleveling (kufatec) and i am ready to install them. I have visited yesterday a professional electrician engineer for examining the car and the parts and he told me that it is very dificult but possible. In case i have any development from side i will post it here. Thanks in advance.

xenon

There is a much cheaper way of doing this retro fit although a little trickier. i bought oem headlights, bulbs, ballasts thats it. Everything is working fine, except i get a dipped beam failure error on dash that im working on.

Contact me for info or of you know how to get rid of the error.

Xenon+DRL+Autoleveling

I have an update regarding the xenon+DRL+autoleveling headlights.

I have finished with the wiring and the DRL+xenon are working with some problems since i have not finished with the recoding yet. I have Elsawin and Etka and managed to found all componenets and wiring diagrams. The problem is that the oem wiring harnes is color coded (black, red, blue etc) and the Kufatec wiring harnes is not but it has prited the pin numbers (1,2,3,etc). I have managed to route almost all lines to the appripriate locations including electonic modules, fuses, relays exept 4 wires form the autoleveling wiring harness. I suspect these 4 wires are connected to the main power supply unit under the steering wheel. Is anyone know where i have to connect these wires? Thanks in advance.

hi everybody!

here is my report of an "almost" successful retrofit of bixenon leds to an audi a5 with halogen headlights:ninja2:

I bought a pair of xenon drls on the ebay for around 600euros and an adaptor from kufatec for 50 euros.

The long coding of my car prior to the retrofit was:

Code:
"Address 09: Cent. Elect. (J519) Labels: 8K0-907-063.clb

   Part No SW: 8K0 907 063 A HW: 8K0 907 063 A

   Component: BCM1 1.0 H22 0253

   Revision: 02022001 Serial number: 00000000111011

   Coding: 290000000030A7010005000000001F1F0F1C028800000101000000

   Shop #: WSC 06325 000 00000

   Component: E1 - LDS H07 0070

No fault code found."
I installed the headlights and adaptor easily. However, there were two 2 additional thin gray wires that according to a retrofit guide for the audi A4 B7 http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?p=23248605 need to run back to the ECM for control of the xenon high beams. These wires need to be connected to pins 21&22 of the gray 32 pin connector and are labeled as 32b/21 and 32b/22. I found the electric circuit diagram from audi etka (see below)
a4.jpg
However, the new audi a5 has different electronics. I found the relevant circuit diagram for the audi a5 from etka and the position of the onboard supply control unit where the cables should (?) be fitted. I think (?) that the wires should be fitted to pin 9 of the t17n 17 pin red connector (for the right headlight) and pin 3 of the t17m 17 pin brown connector (for the left headlight) that are positioned on the onboard supply control unit j519 in the bottom of the driver dash panel . See pictures bellow
a51.jpg
a52.jpg
a53.jpg
a54.jpg
a55.jpg
I did the above, however, despite the fact that the positions 3 and 9, respectively, of the above connectors were available in my car, the j519 control unit did not have any male pins to attach the female pins of the kufatec adapter. I am not sure if I need a new j519 control unit or if the the kufatec gray cables should be attached somewhere else.

I have attached a pdf with the wiring diagram for the xenon headlights. Any suggestion would be great! Please help!!! View attachment 1.pdf

Anyway, I went on with the vcds recoding to see if the headlights would work. At first without the recoding the xenon would turn on for a few seconds flicker and then turn off. An error message something about failure in the beams (dont remember exactly) would display on the dash. As suggested in this post, I tried to change byte00 of the Address 09 from 29 in my original settings to 26 with the vcds to make xenon work. However, it would return an error message that the code was out of range. I tried instead 23 and 20 and both would make the xenon work properly (however, not the high beam). I made the rest of the changes suggested in the post and had the drls running as well. Indicators also worked and parking lights would also work ok. None of the changes suggested for the high beams did not make the high beams work. Manual leveling does not work either. Another problem is that the drls strip only lights up when the parking lights or the first scale beams are on. When the lights switch is at 0 the drls are not on.

Other vcds coding that worked is the full brightness mode for Drls and the Drls lighting up when unlocking and going away delay.

I tried several codings as seen in the ECU database. Here are two of my vcds logs (one would give back an error- not sure why)

Code:

Any suggestion would be great. Mostly I am concerned with the high beams problem. That is not acceptable and if I can not find a solution I will have to go back to halogen :wall:

Has anyone managed manual leveling?

update to my previous post

I have slightly change the coding and resolved some issues: now the DRLs light up at full brightness when the switch is at position 0 (alone without the parking lights - this is the way there are supposed to work). Furhermore, now DRLs remain at full brightness when parking or low beam lights are on.

The problem of the high beams and manual leveling remains. I have noticed that cars with xenon lights have the 8K0 907 063 D j519 control unit. My car has the 8K0 907 063 A j519 control unit. I have found some pictures and will see if it the 8K0 907 063 D has the 2 pins, mentioned above, that were missing from the 8K0 907 063 A. If this is the case all I have to do is to replace my j519 control unit with a new one. (sold on ebay at around 100 euros) Will report on this. Cheers!

Hi everybody!

The 8K0 907 063 D has the 2 pins mentioned above. I have already bought the controller in the ebay for 60 euros. I will post again news when installed and the mod is finished.

Thanks for your calls.

To anastasioscisco What was the s/n of your j519 controller? Have you changed to 8K0 907 063 D? If you have retrofitted all the xenon system hardware, why dont you fit in the original cabling instead of kufatec adapter? You may be interested in this original cabling http://cgi.ebay.de/Audi-S5-A5-Coupe-Innenraumkabel-Kabelbaum-Innenraum_W0QQitemZ370211035998QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutoteile_Zubeh%C3%B6r?hash=item56324c1b5e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A3|66%3A2|39%3A1|293%3A4|294%3A50

A5 Xenon and J519

Hi VanAlex,

Thanks for your reply and for the link with the wirring harness. My J519 has s/n: 8K0 907 063 B. I have noticed for retrofiting xenon to VW Golf 2007 model you need to retrofit the highline onboard power supply unit. I have not managed to find this info for A5 but it seems that the standard model have a simpified J519 and the xenon models have an upgraded version of the J519. So, do you thing replaceing the J519 module will solve the issue with the high beams? Also do you thing that working with the existing J519 is it imposible to make the high beam working properly?

Please also note that my kufatec adapter it does not have the 2 wires you mentioned in your email. I can also see in Kufatec's web site the adaptor has 2 single wires, propably for the high beems. I have bought the complete kit with autoleveling (article number: 36974) and the 14 pin adaptor it does not have these 2 wires. In my 14 pin adaptor at the moment there is only one pin unused (pin 13), pins 1,2,3,4 are for the autoleveling and they conect to the J431 module. However i have 4 wires from the autoleveling wiring harness that i do not know where they go? 1 Purple, 1 White, 1 red-white and the Earth connection and the CAN-HIGH-LOW.

I will let you know my progress.
