Thanks to everyone for posting this "fix". Wish I'd come on to the forum before reading my manual (god, I hate doing that). I was getting more than a little annoyed at my "faulty" key not coming out of the ignition...

mine gets stuck around 1 time in 10 maybe. nothing to worry about for me, just the catch not quite released properly. Pressing it back in the ignition, and re-releasing always works.

It kept sticking, so I just shook the steering wheel side to side, then tried again and it came out!

I used to get this when I first bought the car and I couldn't figure out what it was........

I think I finally sussed it though.

The problem was, I wasn't pushing the key in far enough (or firmly enough) when I turned the engine off (it was far enough to turn off, but not enough to activate the release or whatever). It's become second nature now, and I can honestly say I don't remember the last time it got stuck.

I suppose the reason it's releasing on your second attempt, is because you are sub-consciously pushing it in more firmly, through frustration.

Thought I had this problem but it was impatience on my part. Push it in,,,,,WAIT for it to pop out,,,,,,remove. Works every time. Before I was trying to grab it before it had popped out.

I guess we are all being a little impatient.

I have a new A5 so really struggled with getting the key out after stopping and tried various suggestion about pushing it in and using pressure etc but i still struggled. Turns out the answer for me me was really obvious. Basically i simply press the key in (gently) and don't hold it down or anything. then i pause for 1 sec and it pulls out every time - previously i was pausing while holding it pressed in and that seemed to make it stick worse. Am a very happy owner now and not had a sticky key for past 2 weeks. easy once you figure it out!

I have a A5 but when I puss in the key fob in the engine will not start I have to do it 5 or 6 times before the engine starts is there any thing wrong
That sure does;t sound normal. Should start with one push as long as the brake pedal is depressed. I'd get it checked.
