In the screen when driving the below message appears.
"Left dipped headlight/main beam headlight"
and the left xenon headlight is off.
The DRL are ok. Just the main/high beam.
Does anyone has ever seen this message?
Is the lamp off?

I haven't had this issue, but it sounds like the DIS is telling you that the HID lamp on the left side has failed. Unfortunately, these a far more costly and potentially hazardous to change than halogen ones... = ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ...!

Over the three years I've had the car, I've had both sides replaced under warranty - one side was for a single LED that failed (the top most one on the passenger side) and then a couple of months back the other side xenon failed, with the same message as you describe.

The slightly strange thing with this was that it failed about 20 minutes into a 3 hour journey and I tried playing with the headlight switch on the dash, switching from auto to off and also to sidelights or main beam on (i.e. turn switch to the right). Each time the xenons should come on, they both did, but the right hand one (drivers side in the UK) failed after around 30secs to 2 minutes. This happened throughout the journey and would never stay on, but did come on each time initially.

Took it in to the dealer and the entire headlight unit was replaced under warranty. The dealer did mention that when one xenon fails, the advice from Audi in Germany is to replace them as a pair, but as I'd already had the other one done, the dealer wouldn't cover it again.

Worth asking your dealer though as you ought to get a pair of new headlight units (around ÂŁ280-300 each in the UK).

Hope this helps.

Yes, it's a D3S BiXenon lamp. Seems to be possible to obtain just the replacement HID lamp unit from various places from about ÂŁ60+, but I dunno about the quality of these cheaper ones. I don't know if Audi would supply the lamp unit separately, as a previous post in this thread seems to indicate that they would replace the whole headlight?

Just came back from the dealer. The bulb has blow out. Its all broken. Never had seen before.. It can be replaced. Cost from Audi dealer 250€!! just for the bulb. Maybe they dont understand what i was asked for.
The type of the bulb is the one below that I have mentioned.
Philips D3S XenEcoStart OEM bulb

Yep, I'm not at all surprised...! It's an astonishing amount of money for a bulb though. Is you car still in warranty? I would be inclined to argue that the unit must have been defective to fail in the manner they describe.
Or you could take a chance on one of the cheaper listings on the net and do it yourself. Take care with the high voltage though!!!

Warranty has expired 4 months ago..

Although I just order original bulbs from the net. Has a little bit cheaper option. The OEM bulbs are only Phillips as I found so I bought them (a pair of them).
I saw the dealer taking out the headlight (very simple) but when I take the bulbs I will go to them to change it. Thanks for the replies.. I will upload photos of the failed bulb.

Ive just had the same problem. main & dipped out on passenger side. I took out the headlamp, removed the xenon bulb and its in bits, identical to the pictures posted above.
Now I see alot of D3S bulbs advertised but there seems to be a variety of 'lighting colour' available from 4500k to 8000k. Anyone know what OE fitment is rated at?
Also, anyone recommend alternative to the original philips bulbs

Bought a replacement off ebay for £60 as dealer wanted €191 + VAT.

It didnt come in a philips box but the sticker on the base of the bulb is identical to the OE bulb I replaced and says its philips. I fitted it and the colour looks perfect and beam pattern looks fine to me so it would appear to be a perfect replacement.

Replace A5 Xenon bulb. D3S HID Xenon Bulbs OEM Replacement

Just checked and they are now ÂŁ40 per pair but still better than the robbing b****rds at the dealers.

Fitted them myself with guidance from this link I found with the magic that is google.

S5 headlight removal pics - AudiWorld Forums

Take your time and it's relatively simple. Once you have followed and loosened the "3rd" screw the unit slides out easily.
On the back of the unit next to the bulb is a lever that when lifted (or lowered can't remember) releases the bulb. Pop the new one in and reverse the lever. There is enough slack in the cable to be able to re-attach the power cable unit and test before refitting.

Hope this helps

In my previous car I had D2S and bought one pair from eBay china for 30 odd quid which lasted more than 3 years. Fitting HID bulbs are really easy, just make sure to disconnect electric connector to the whole headlight unit just to be on safe side. Quite unfortunate that the dealers charge so much just to change the bulb and for the bulb itself....

The Audi dealers in South Florida are charging over $200 for the bulb: N-107-218-05 GAS BULB BC4B. That's for my 2008 Audi A5 S-Line.

Does anyone know if it's just as "simple" as changing the bulb? Or does something need to be recalibrated or does anything need to be reset on the on-board computer?

Hi,
I had the same problem at my Audi A5 2009 Coupè showing warning 'Right Dipped Headlight / Main Beam Headlight'.
Are all the D3S fitting well beside the fact they might be in a different color?
And should I use 12V or 85V lights?

I checked this one for example that seems to be compatible but they are 12V lights
Audi A5 2011 -2007 HID Xenon Bulbs D3S 6000K 12V 35W Headlight Lamps Replacement | eBay

But this instead are marked as not compatible even though the seems very similar to the pervious ones?
D3S / D3C 6000K HID XENON Lights Replacement Headlamp Bulbs Lamps | eBay

And would this D3S 85V one from Halfords fit?
Halfords HID D3S 85v 35w Car Bulb

Thanks

Auto express did a HID test last week and the cheaper bulbs were terrible. The 2 they bought from Ring and Halfords were different makes and gave off different colours. Osram won the test. Also there are a lot of fakes out there. Philips put a unique number on theirs which you can check on their website for originality.
I would be weary buying off eBay.

eBay D3S xenons

Bought some D3S 8K xenons off ebay for ÂŁ40 a pair. They worked brilliantly for 6 weeks and now the left side will turn off after about 2 minutes and I get an error message saying the bulb needs replacing. It will turn back on if I turn the lights off and back on again, but again, only for about 2 minutes. I have sent a query to the seller, but I was wondering if this is a common fault or if it is more likely that I have bought an inferior product. My previous bulbs were Philips and the same thing happened, but after having the car for about 3 months. Just wondering if I am wasting my money changing the bulbs every few months, as surely they should last a lot longer than this!

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Maybe try some better branded bulbs?

I noticed one of my bulbs flickering the other night, its not done it since but I will look forward to this bill!

I am under warranty but I cant see that covering bulbs myself surely they are a wear and tear part unless its something in the ballast that goes
