Hi guys,

New to this forum and new to Audi ownership. Just picked up a 2012 S5 sportback with 99K miles. Seems very tight and a great drive.

Other than the DSG service is there anything else that I should think about doing to avoid future problems considering it’s done 100KHeard supercharger pulley should be replaced at 120K for example.

Searched but didn’t find much.

hopefully others with the same car (I've got a 2008 V8, not the V6) will chime in, but looking further, you have a timing chain, which I believe is there for 'live' in the car and doesn't need changing unless it's showing issues (ie, rattling).
So you might be safe without having to do that.

Here is something that I just found that is interesting from Audi.

Model-Year-2012-English.pdf (audi.ca)

It shows what is a minor and major service, so you can check against your service records to see what has and has not been done. I would assume that if your car was taken to audi for it's regular service intervals, all the stuff in this pdf would have been done, but you can always ring them to check.

Timing chain will be expensive and it is not urgent - just noisy - so leave it until needed.
Supercharger and aux belt should be done every 60K IIRC.
Not everyone gets pulley failure - I have heard of cars into the 100Ks on the original but I also heard of one failing at less than 30K.
Based on its infamy, the DSG should get the TLC. Consider getting the gear oil done as well as the ATF, and for the latter remove the sump and replace the internal filter.

Thanks for this. Had some sh**t news today. Took it for an oil change and they found a big oil leak coming from gearbox.

Anybody have any recommendations for Audi S-tronic specialists South East?

Only had the car a week and I'm sure the guy I purchased from knew about this as it had a DSG service recently. I might have to threaten legal action if it's a costly fix.

Hey Man,

How is the situation on the oil leak?

I am planning to buy a 2012 S5, but kinda afraid I just burn my money, going through the forums, 71K miles on it, so might be good for a while, and I don't mind spending on maintenance, but problems with the gearbox sounds like a nightmare.

And DJ mate, if the seller was a private fellow then I am not sure what you can do. A dealer must give a warranty but not a private as far as I know. So even if he knew as sounds likely than you would have to try a solicitors letter and then the small claims court I guess.

Attached is a service interval list. It for MY 2014, but it should be mostly applicable to yours too.

It's the crank pulley that can fail. Not the actual supercharger pulley. As Dippy says, they can fail anytime, but usually give a knocking or rattle sound, sometimes a creaking as the 'rubber' insert part fails.

Most upgrade to a performance 'solid' pulley so this doesn't happen and you get more power. :)

A big oil leak!? Depends where it's coming from? Could be the garage that did the service didn't tighten something? Oil leaks are normally minor issues with seals/gaskets. It's abnormal noises and dahs warning lights that you have to be concerned about. If it was a big oil leak, you would see oil on the floor where you park you car?

Should have got some pics whilst it was up in the air. Never really trust a garage that says your car has a 'big oil leak'. You should get more info and where it is actually coming from and possible causes/fixes from the garage.

Thanks for the info! Have you had the crank pulley replaced? If so, how much was it including labour?

I'm thinking of going MRC stage 2 in a few months. Assume that would be the time to replace the crank pulley as they'll be doing the supercharger pulley at the same time?

I got my pulley from allstars motorsport in Portugal 3 years ago for £350 delivered. I know more recently they had offers of a very similar price. But you can spend more for top end stuff like the Fluidampr which has a viscous damper in it, Dippy has one of these.

I wouldn't advise the bolt over pulleys, like APR as you don't eradicate the potential pulley issue which is the OE pulley is left on and the drive for the SC is bolted over the top. The Aux belt will still run on the OE pulley..

MRC may not fit the CTS pulley, depends on what connections they have. I know they tend to fit the 189mm pulley for stage 2. But see what they say. :)

FYI I purchased my vdamper direct (and paid the import customs duty) and took it to MRC. Doug was happy to fit it instead of the single piece one they normally use. Fortunately he also fitted the correct size drive belt because the one it came with was too small. But if you go this route double check on the size. Someone at MRC told me that their standard size is 189mm which is why mine is, however various forum threads suggest that this is not true, and something Doug said to me while I was there suggests it too.

AIUI MRC fit a 179mm pulley with a 1310mm belt for their Stage 2. Like @Dippy I'm using a 189mm Fluidampr pulley with a 1325mm belt, however I bought mine from AKS Tuning in UK rather than import from Canada direct myself.

MRC were happy to fit and Stage 2 tune with the pulley/belt I supplied but I got no extra gains over their Stage 2 tunes with 179mm pulleys.

179mm pulleys are available from Fluidampr.

I'm a bit confused with this Dave. :) So MRC use a 179mm pulley for their S2?

I have a 187mm CTS pulley with, as you know, the 1310mm belt.

djsedo - Dippy, myself and HTB are all called Dave, so which ever Dave you chose for the info, you got it from Dave :D

Gotcha, DAVE! haha

I wouldn't assume there's any gains to be had from new pulley and that it's just a preventative maintenance thing, and with that in mind I'd rather do it as cheap as possible (without compromising on quality too much).
