Hey all, I’m new to the group. I’ve got a 2008 a5 b8 3.2fsi (6spd if that matters) that I’ve had since 2015. Over the past year, I’ve had a lot of coolant issues. I was told there was a leak coming from the coolant flange, and possibly the upper coolant hose as well. I have all the parts to fix it, I just haven’t gotten to it yet because I recently wrecked the car, so it’s just been sitting... but now that I have the time to actually work on it, it’s not wanting to go anywhere. Before the wreck, even with the coolant leaks, I could get from point A to point B without any major coolant loss. Now, I lose damn near all of it the second I move the car. My radiator fans don’t seem to be kicking on, and it sounds like there’s something going on with the coils on the right side of the engine. I hear a buzzing noise, like high electricity or something. I will also add that when revving the car up in attempt to kick the fans on, it won’t go past 4000 rpm’s. If anyone has experience with these issues, or if someone can diagnose what’s going on just by reading this, pleeeease help a girl out.

Hi Kate (if I’ve worked that out correctly?!). Afraid I can’t really help you with the coolant loss. But the car does limit the revs you can achieve while stationary and in neutral. The Diesel engines are limited 1K rpm lower than the petrol ones I believe, so 4K sounds about right.

Hi,
So sorry to hear your issue. I think you can first check fuse, fan wire, temperature sensor. one of these thing can cause your issue. If you can't check it by yourself, take it to dealer or Autozone to help you find down the issue. Good luck to you.

The coolant tank is on the right side and if this is the source of you leak, they can leak at the coolant hose or coolant level sensor and maybe 'spit' onto the right bank of coil packs!?

If the coolant is disappearing that rapidly, there has got to be an obvious sign of where the leak is.

Has it been pressure tested?
