Hey,

I have a dilemma, I cant choose which colour!

I like white cos its very fresh and you can spot it from a mile, but black is soo classy at night, and when its all cleaned up its a real show stopper...

I live in the UK, so the weather is crap most the time...

What will you go for and your reason?

Phamtom Black Or White!

Remember to imagine the colour with tinted window:p

Tough choice :)

These are both A5s and both looking awesome

White is currently in fashion, but will look very chav in a year or so - 1985 White Ford Escort (see thumbnail). It's ok if you live in LA, but Cheltenham on a rainy Tuesday afternoon ? No.

I must admit, however, that Rab88's White A5 looks very nice indeed.:)

Black is always in fashion and looks super-classy. Also more rewarding to maintain, and easier to sell.

White..

or Black..

DanKo,

You haven't let us know the colours of your previous cars. Seems you like black though if you're going to get the black headlining, although if you also then go for black/black interior and then also tint the windows, it would be very dark in there...

The A5 does look classy in white though, especially with the 19" Y alloys, which are a slightly darker shade of alloy than most other Audi wheels. Would look great with window tints too - are you going to do 30% on the fronts as well as the rears?

Of course, I've got the Phantom Black, and it does look fantastic when clean and shiny. I'm not going to bother with the tinting though, think I'll just keep my car standard for now and just enjoy it as it is...

white looks stylish as that if u keep it clean, which i know u do m8, and black does also, so i wud say if u like both of the colours then choose what ever takes you when u decide.

DanKo,
At the risk of sounding a bit flippant, you seem to get through so many cars, order a black one for now and then get a white one for 2009!:D :D

(Or the other way round, can't decide...)

Bryce,

The 3.0 TDi is fantastic - when you're driving it, you really don't know it's a diesel at all as it's so smooth and the A5 is much better sound-isolated compared to the old A4/S4 range. The in-gear acceleration times are almost identical to my old S4, so it's not really any slower in real-world driving, but I would admit to missing the extra 3000rpm I had in the S4 up to the red line.

The TDi pulls so strongly (especially in 2nd and 3rd) but you get to the red line just a bit too quick - I always find myself wanting a bit more within one gear. I also find I'm having to shift gear that much more as the diesel can be a bit unresponsive if the turbo's off-boost. The 4.2 V8 had so much torque throughout the range that it would pull quite happily all the way from 1000rpm to the red line with no let up at all. Always put a huge grin on my face!

However, it was nice driving the 25 minutes to work this morning and seeing 40.7mpg as an average rather than approx 20 I used to get in the S4!

Hope this helps.

House,
Some great photos there, but I found the comments below them far more interesting, especially the comment about the S5 having "too many buttons where your coffee is supposed to be..." in the last post!!:D :D :D
Yeah, I read all those comments as well. The Accord (or whatever Honda) interior comparison comment was just plain dumb. And I think the photography/composition was excellent.

Thanks Scratch. That feedback if very helpful. I have yet to actually test the 3.0TDi, but I am really looking forward to getting hold of one for an hour or so :)

Maybe I will take an open cup of coffee with me :D Wonder if it would stay in the cup as I carve around the Swiss Alps !

Never did understand the US cupholder fixation. Roads are all straight, with no bumps I suppose ;) I actually think the A5/S5 cupholders are a bit too visible for my liking, right there in the centre console :(

I agree about the cup holders in the console. Looks like it'll only be a slight improvement over my B5A4. I guess I'm destined to never have a car that actually has functional slide away cup holders.

Sorry, Danko. This thread is going all kinds of sideways!

I have had black in the past. Upkeep is soo difficult. Any bit of dirt shows right up by having a dull finish. I like white as it does stand out on this car. However I picked Meteor as it hides everything. My car currently has water spots, road deposits, and mud from the road all over it. From 10 feet away it looks good. However when you get close you can see how dirty it is. BTW, I washed it yesterday. Our local roads are just that bad right now.
