I have had an on going minor oil leak from the area shown in the photo. I've had the gear box sump pan gasket and sump pan changed with no luck. The leak may be coming from a gap between two castings on the gear box. I'm reluctant to have the gear box removed due to labour costs if it is not necessary. However I'm wondering if this is yet another known problem Audi keep quiet about.

I don't know why 20 year old Japanese cars can have gaskets that don't leak but all 5 of my audi/vw start to leak everywhere after 7 years or so.

the rear main seal is a common issue. looks like audi tried to save one penny too much and used a super thin piece of rubber.

can't tell if thats what you're experiencing, but I would start there.

My transmission was leaking from the machatronic seal. Have you checked to see if this is your culprit?
