Greetings all. I am a current E46 BMW M3 owner who is secretly salivating over the new S5. I was driving my car to the car wash, one particular day, and decided to roll into the Audi dealership. One was sitting outside of the dealership...after I spoke to a sales consultant and she asked me if I wanted to drive it, I realized I was done. The interior, the low smooth and amazing exhaust, the features, the techy appeal...im a bit geeky with gadgets, daytime LED, etc. I only wish the 19"s looked a bit better. They still don't seem to fill the arches as I might like...oh well...very minor. Yes, I'm a BMW fanatic, but this S5 has seriously caught my eye.

I appreciate all the comments and the community here as I read it all. I'm an active forum member at m3forum.com, but this site might be my new home, eventually. Ordering delays in Texas are currently around 6 months, or so they say. I'm betting longer.

Happy New Year!

Greg, There's me thinking you're from the UK with that name Gb... can you add Texas, US to your signature?

Welcome to the forum Greg. Hope you enjoy.

I'm with you on the wheels not filling the arches as much as they could...hopefully lowering the car will sort this out. If not, then bigger wheels will be a must for me.

Hey Greg! Welcome and say Hi to several other M3 or ex-M3 owners on here!

I think we pretty much all agree about the wheels filling the arches, and have universally agreed to use spacers... and/or upgrade to 20s. There's a few threads here on these topics and a few guys are trying spacers shortly and have promised to post before and after piccies.

... Mine will be delivered in a few weeks and I can't wait!

Ian.

You may want to check with other dealers in your region. My local dealer (Kansas City) is about 4 month wait. If you ring them talk to Amy she is the best. However I am sure there are quite a few more dealers closer to you that may have production slots available for a quicker delivery.

Seems like the S5 is becoming incredibly popular with the e46 M3 owning, bangle-hating crowd :)
Welcome.

Very true on the Bangle design mistakes. The new M3 is nice, but that interior is ridiculous. Oh, and have you read about the CF roof for the M3! It saves 11 pounds on the total vehicle weight. Give me a break! haha

Well, it is 11 pounds at the top, makes a difference performance wise. I like the new m3, it may be my next car, but BMW ALWAYS has problems in the first year of a new M engine so it was easy to wait this one out. I have a feeling that by the time I'm ready to move on from the S5 i'll be looking at a 911 though, one of those cars that I feel like I need to own at some point in my life.

Biggest problem for me with this roof thing is the lack of paint - why? Ferrari always paint all the carbon fibre on the outside of their cars - what is it about BMW (or new M3 owners maybe) that means they feel the need to show off that part of the car is made of something new/light. Most of an Audi A8 is aluminium, and that's painted. Also the front wings of the new shape TT - equally covered in paint. Seeing as the CF is lacquered, why the absence of paint? It can't save weight not painting it.

Apart from that, I agree with gb007 - the M3 coupe is a very unresolved piece of design and the interior is not worthy of a £25k car, let alone a £50k one!

Cause it looks cool (to some), and yes it is a bit of bragadocio. But to be fair remember our beloved S5 has a V8 badge on it. Be easy to substitue that badge and Audi for carbon fibre and BMW in the above reasoning.
