Hi All,

Happy New Year to you :)

My name's Dan - based in the UK and currently driving a Porsche 996 Carrera 4. I've had S-Audis beforehand - a modded B5 S4 Avant. Great fun but wanted something more interesting at the time.

Porsche is fun, but I'm looking at a possible change to something newer, and the S5 (maybe RS5) seems appealing.
Undecided about V8 or V6 (knowing that the RS is V8 only) but quite fancy an auto....... which after having a VW, the DSG seems interesting (thus pushing me towards a v6, I think).....

Lots of mulling over tbh, so no doubt I'll lurk and read in the meantime!

Take it easy,

Dan

Thanks :)

I've been reading a LOT today. There's always that fine line as most people don't frequent forums with the sentiment of, "My car's great, working perfectly"....... usually quite the opposite :D

There do appear to be some aspects to be acutely aware of, and that's coming from someone who's had a Porsche engine rebuild!

So I'll chime in to some threads and see how it goes :)

Welcome Dan,

I'm a new s5 owner and couldn't be happier! A couple of minor teething issues, but managed to update my sat nav maps via the forum and planning an RS5 grille swap in a few weeks based on what I've seen here, the forum has been a big help getting started!

Best wishes finding something you like :)

I'm on the v6 as I've got the Sportback (due to kids) and whilst I'm slightly jealous of the v8 owners, the practicalities wouldn't have worked for me and I couldn't stretch to an RS5! The DSG is really fun to play about with but also really relaxed when you're feeling lazy! It's my first auto gearbox past my wife's old Passat, but enjoying it so far.

WELL, an update for you (if you're interested :D )
The Porsche has been sold - typical of me to try to sell JUST as the cost of living goes nuts, and there's a war.

But I'm now in a position to buy my S5 :)

I am actively looking for a 3.0 V6 Coupe. I'm setting a budget of around £15k, hopefully giving me a bit of a contigency (just in case!)
Ironically, there's not many out there, which seems to be a market change. Typical :D

Great choice, but then I'm biased. Will be interesting to see what you can find at that price point. I assume you looking for the B8.5 platform or are B9's achievable?

Hi Tony,
Yeh, it's the B8.5 I think. The problem is that there are VERY few Coupes on the market at the moment - especially in my budget.
The daft thing is that a couple of weeks ago, there were loads! :D

There's lots of V8s, Sportbacks and Convertibles though - all of which don't really appeal.

I've tried Facebook, Ebay, Autotrader and Pistonheads...... can't think of anywhere else though.

I think second hand car prices are still strong, these may drop in the next few months as the impact of inflation etc hits, but who knows...

Yes, very strong. The only bargaining chip I've got is I'm a cash buyer. But my budget is my budget. I suppose cheeky offers £1k below their asking prices might be my only option until the prices change (or I can raise more cash :D )

Mr Scooby, you're looking in the right places but just be patient. I searched for ages to find the right one and I'm glad I was patient. Forums are a good place to keep checking as these ones are often the best kept examples looked after by enthusiasts. The only downside is they aren't often let go.
The coupes are the most sought after too.

Wife or car choice... Hard choice, I'm sure she will forgive you.... Eventually 🤣

To be fair I drove mine for 16 months as std and was plenty for me. You won't miss the remap till you have had it
