I quite like it. Although at £25k I'd rather have an S3, surely???
It's interesting to see how VAG are developing their twin charger engines. My wife has the Golf GT 1.4 TSi that kicks out 170 Bhp and 240NM and I thought that was going some for a 1.4 -great fun up to about 80mph but then the limited capacity starts to let it down. The engine revs so freely though and the crossover between the supercharger and turbo combined with the free revving engine gives it the feel of having a powerband reminiscent of a 2 stroke motorbike. Clarkson described the combination as an on off switch and he's not far wrong - not a smooth drive but loads of The S1 should be a hoot....although since this will be coming from a 1.4 engine (Incredible!) there's not much tuning potential!
