Q&A section
Here are some of the questions raised by the forum members about the update process that I might failed to explain in the manual.

Q. Do i need VCDS to do the update?
A. No, you need VCDS only to clear some errors after the update but the MMI will function correctly even if you don’t clear them out.

Q. I have a Bang & Olufsen sound system not a Bose. Does this also mean that i need to exclude it?
A. Yes, better not to update the DSP system.

Q. Currently no updates for North America?
A. Not for now.

Q. I have mmi 3g , version p0XXX can i go straight to k0260?
A. Yes.

Q. 01043 - Control Module; Incorrect Software Version - How can i solve this ?
A. Restart the MMI and remove the key from ignition then put it back in. The error should change from 01043 - Control Module; Incorrect Software Version to 03276 - Please Check Software Version Management.

Q. What are 03276 and 03175, will they affect the MMI in anyway and how can they be avoided?
A. 03276 - Please Check Software Version Management will appear every time when the software is updated w/o VAS connection to the VW/Audi servers.
03175 - Invalid Data Set will appear when updating the map w/o deleting it first. Sometimes this helps to avoid that error.
They will not affect the functionality or the sound characteristics of the MMI.

Q. Is there a way to use used defined mode w/o "Green Menu"?
A. Yes. In file metainfo2.txt in the root folder if you remove the line "MetafileChecksum=XXXXXX" and add
EnableUserDefinedSWDLMode = "true"
skipMetaCRC = "true"
the you will be able to use the user mode w/o the green menu.

Warning - At no stage I take responsibility of your actions or any of my notes that may mislead you. Therefore, and like my all other documents I say “use at your own risk”.

Cheers :wink2:

It's better to exclude the B&O from the upgrade (look at the guide for 3GP - Bose section ) for the DAB I will look to see if I have separate firmware. Odd configuration though, never saw B&O with basic nav :) there is a chance the bass to become less powerful after the upgrade if you don't exclude it.

On the link from above you can find the following folder 8R0906961AL (3G_DAB_K0098) this is additional update for the DAB radio - i'm not sure if it's needed.
For the BO you either use the user defined mode or buy one 4E0973802 and before the update make a bypass of the B&O - during the update you wont have music but i think that is not a problem.

The option was supposed to be available as in the manual :) but anyway good for you. The problem with B&O is sometimes reduced bass after update.

I'm not sure about deleting the Bose/B&O specific files.

K0260 should be ok for A6 too - as i said it's hardware specific. There is no other version of K0260.

metainfo2.txt within other folders don't need this.
If for some reason CP is triggered then it could be removed only by dealer.
There are cases that during software upgrade CP is triggered and then disappears.
If you have a module that was not originally in your car and that module have CP feature then ... only dealer.

Incidentally, may I make a suggestion for future updates? If you modify the metainfo2.txt file to enable the User Defined option, wouldn't that make life a whole lot easier for owners that don't have access to a VAGCOM to enable the (dangerous) Green Menu?
I agree with you and maybe i have to do it but ... it's always a question of time :) I need to change and re-upload the files, but i have them only on my personal pc .. at home. With two kids waiting at home you can imagine how busy my evenings are :wink2: And they can be like the devil some times. >:) But will do as soon as i have some time free for that. Currently all my free time is going in hacking MMI and Radio units so they can be converted from US to EU :wink2:

p.s. About the green menu there are some scripts that can activate it too but i didn't tested them :( Unfortunately i don't have time for everything. :crying:

Hi
I have a 2011 A6 C6
Here is where i made a mistake :) I read Audi A6 2011 and then stopped ... assuming that it's C7. ... need a bigger :nerd:

Ok, so you have Basic navigation and this is the right topic for you.
Go with K0257 and then K0260 although i have never did it that way but i know that it is working.

Cheers.

Hi Congo,

i am not able to extract these files below :

Audi MMI 3G Europe (West) 2016 DVD-2.7z.002

Audi MMI 3G Europe (West) 2016 DVD-2.7z.003

but Audi MMI 3G Europe (West) 2016 DVD-2.7z.001 file able to extract for the West maps,

also please let me know when do ihave to install activation file 1KB file

Thanks

That is split archive, you don't need to extract the individual files just the first in the sequence.

The activation you can install just before the map or after, it doesn't matter.

hi hrissim,
you don't actually need the scripts from the manual but if you do then just ask.
The one for the green menu is already in the topic for 3GP, and i think there you can find the one for the 3623 too.

For the "basic" map install neither of these scripts is prerequisite.
They are for some errors removal and stuff :)

Cheers.

The system will operate normally even if you don't clear the errors.
So instead of buying some cheap cables you can wait until there is member local to you who has VCDS :)
