@DenshiKenshi -- Your '14 A7 will have the AT&T 3G data modem module fitted to the main unit. People were exploiting the DLINK network mode in 2014 or so to provision internet data through smartphone hotspots. I much prefer the LTE router concept: Google on-line destination searches on our last out-of-town trip in December worked perfectly, and my Google Earth data through the audi-mib pass-through service works (mostly). A quick poke at eBay shows some WR11 XT listings, e.g.: Digi Transport WR11 XT (WR11-M600-DE1-XB) Wireless Cellular Router With Antennas | eBay

As for the myAudi connection in DLINK mode, this is unresolved. I fellow in PL with a working 3G PPP connection and a myAudi account ran some syslogs for me not too long ago with examples of a working TLS handshaking and downloads. I still need to decompile the Java byte code from the class files extracted from myaudiconnect_nodataconnect.jar to determine where this breaks. The next challenge will be how to fix & rebuild a working JAR for DLINK mode. Alas, not a high priority project these days since I'm looking to find a decent B9 A4Q 6MT to replace our '14 A4Q 6MT. --g

Use "-Dde.audi.mmi3g.useprops.xargs=true" and then manually provide the contents of the config files via J9 args as well - you're welcome :)

I would be interested if I could access TMC, maps and POI….😎
On my focus there are currently two things for MMI3G+:
  1. App for android phones that will let you cast specific apps straight to the MMI screen, kind of like android auto. In the ideal world, this app should also let you sync navi directions from the phone (if you are running waze/google maps) and display it on the cluster.
  2. A new menu/screen for observing various data streams that come from different modules in the car. (Being able to see oil/antifreeze temperature, turbo pressure, etc)

@mj131 -- Thanks for that hint. I solved the problem of the wrong server address in the properties file of the myaudiconnect_nodataconnect.jar by fixing it in-place, but having the ability to reference an external MMI3G_MyAudi.properties files would be easier, so it's worth the experiment (when it gets above 0C outside).

About the USB LTE modem idea: how would you expect this to operate ? As a direct replacement to the 3G modem in PPP mode or as a network router in DLINK (LAN) mode ? The Huawei USB stick appears to look like a serial interface (like the 3G modem), while other USB LTE solutions are implemented as network routers (thus, requiring a USB Ethernet driver). I find the PPP mode appealing, since it looks & acts like what we're used to. The other issue is power to operate the device. Do we know the max current supplied on pin T12y/3 for USB +5V ? --g

I don't think there will be any issues powering the usb stick modem from the AMI usb port.
The PPP mode would require the least effort to implement.

OK, I, for one, would definitely test a solution like this for HN+_US systems if the USB LTE modem supports an AT&T SIM. --g

Glad to see this thread revived 😊

@mj131 count me as +1 for interest in your USB modem driver effort.

What’s the specific Huawei model # you’re targeting, and is it a carrier unlocked device? Or was that pic just an example image of the usb modem stick device style in general, and the model is still TBD? I would use Google Fi (T-Mobile MVNO) for testing this.

@DenshiKenshi -- I ran another experiment with myAudi on-line destination import yesterday, this time to reconfigure the MMI3G_MyAudi.properties contained in the myaudiconnect_nodataconnection.jar to point to the US URL and use a different cert file (also contained in the jar):
Code:
de.audi.myaudi.ws.epr=https://car.audi-online.com/auth/services/AudiConnectorWS
de.audi.myaudi.certfile=audi.dat
With these set, we see the handshake starts, but fails in method LeanSoapTransport.sendReceiveInternal:
Code:
04:42 LC62DBUG:LeanSoapTransport: Performing login with IMSI: 232106908113543 VIN: WAUHFAFL4ENxxxxxx
04:42 LC62DBUG:HttpProxyConfiguration: using custom https-implementation
04:42 LC62DBUG:MonitoredOutputStream: flush() not supported - ignored!
04:42 LC62DBUG:MonitoredOutputStream: flush() not supported - ignored!
04:42 LC62DBUG:HttpsUrlConnection: Connecting to car.audi-online.com:443...
04:43 LC62DBUG:HttpsUrlConnection: HTTPS handshaking to car.audi-online.com...
04:45 LC62DBUG:HttpsUrlConnection: Sending http request (POST)/auth/services/AudiConnectorWS/
04:46 LC62DBUG:ListCookieHandler.put: Accepted cookie: JSESSIONID=76F9FD49E60E91D0AF22D9A39B1E3B15.tomcat00
04:46 LC62EROR:LeanSoapTransport.sendReceiveInternal: Caught ioException - transmission incomplete
I'm thinking the next step here is to compare how this works in the jar with the equivalent code found in the main lsd.jxe blob and try to tease out why the code in the jar fails at this point. --g

hey all, sorry for jumping in: i just retrofitted a 3gp mmi, updated software and maps following drger's thread, and put my sim card into it to see how it would behave. i'm in canada, and it is a fido (rogers) sim card. i got a 3g symbol right away, with signal bars, but never any arrows (showing data exchange).

when i go to the audi connect icon, it displays "the data connection could not be established. please try again later.".

at the nav display, when i select google earth as an option, eventually i get the message "a data connection is required for google earth".

im not sure if all this is just because my sim card is incompatible, or because of the restrictions due to the car's MY. can you please instruct me? thanks in advance!

Well, that sure is interesting. What does [TEL] > Settings > Data connection > Online status overview report:
If "Data service" and "Network strength" are reported, you also need to configure the APN settings for your SIM in the [TEL] > Settings > Data connection > Connection settings:
If the APN field is not correct for the SIM, you won't have any data transfer. --g

@lgtmelo -- So, your Audi Connect service works to get Weather & Gas Price information on-line ? What about on-line destination searches using NAV > Destination > Online destinations:
BTW, I use the voice "on-line destination" search often when traveling, and it works correctly 90+% of the time.

Google stopped supplying Google Earth data to VAG Google Earth auto client software in Dec 2020. The data is still available for the GEMMI client software installed on our MMI3GP systems using a work-around/pass-through service offered by audi-mib.bg (the web site is down right now), but take a look at this thread: https://www.a5oc.com/threads/google-earth-saga-and-vw-group.176098/

You're lucky to find 3G data in North America. You won't find any carriers in the U.S. that supply 3G data anymore. According to this, you should have 3G data from Rogers through (at least) 2025: Important Notice Regarding Upcoming 2G/3G Changes on the Rogers Network --g
