There should be a sticker inside the petrol filler door. This provides the information you need.

I have a 2013 A5 2.0 and it uses premium unleaded fuel or E85. My guess is your A5 is the same.

The car's computer will attempt to accomodate lower octane fuel, but you'll lose power and MPG in the process. It is not recommended to run 87 when your car's designed to run on 91.

Lower octane fuel causes pinging/knocking which is premature detonation. That's no good and will cause engine damage.
