Lettering coming off Start/Stop button!

8869 Views 30 Replies 23 Participants Last post by  REB_A5
On the Start/Stop button is the word "ENGINE" and on both 'N's, the lower part of the N has comeoff. It came off one of the N's to start with, then one day when starting the car, the other N came off, imbedding itself in my thumb and drew blood! The metal lettering on the button flaked off.

It's not so noticable as both the lower bits of N's are now missing, so its symmetrical. Not sure I want the center console removed and potentially damaged at the dealer to replace the button, but this isn't Audi quality. I question which letter is going to flake of next.

Have I been unlucky or are your eNgiNe letters flakey to?

I would seriously just go back to the dealer and say it's flaked off and drew blood! That actually sounds like a hazard and design fault to me. I'm sure they're replace the button.

Paul.
:D Yeah seriously though get it changed under warranty, that not right..

PML .. excellent :D
Funny you said this, mine did the same, it's not all the way, but I think it will get there, one N is already missing the bottom part :)
um, how hard are you pressing the button??
Hate to say this, but if that is really a common problem then any spare parts they might add would probably have the same flaw...

It might be best to ask Audi if they know of this problem and have released new parts without the flaw before letting a maintenance shop tear the car open for this (just so that it can happen again soon)?

So there's two of us with missing N's and like you said, its the bottom part thats come off.

Its strange how the lettering is coming off as my stop/start button has the lettering engraved into the button.

Ok, it's not lettering as such, its part of the engraving thats flaked off.

Look at the N's...

thanks for the pic. I get what you mean now.
I guess you'll have a just one big, glowing button one day. You could then tell your passenger that it's the missile launcher.
Now, thats why I didnt order the advanced key! :p
Had the same thing on the ESP button of my previous A4: was replaced FOC and problem did not recur.
Anyone thing about putting a laminate or protectant shield on the button

No. The chances of it happening on your button is remote and because the lettering is engraved (and then backlit) any shield/covering on it will be obvious.
Mine's doing it now too

Now I've got the peeling letters. I wonder how frequent this is?
