Took my car into a local car shop to replace the sub and they tell me that my sub isn't working. Of course I assume they broke it and scurried up there ready to rip into someone.
Well they pull my car around and it sounds exactly how it did when I dropped it off. They take me to the back and show me that my sub is inactive. Whoooops!

So, I posted my story on AudiWorld and I have had two people tell me their sub was not working and they had to have the amp replaced because it was not sending a signal to the subwoofer. (Hmmm, damaged when I got my car tinted, but not fully blown?)

Mind you, my car has some bass so if you think your sub must be working think again. I just thought the bass was terribly weak.

To check this, pop the trunk and place your hand directly on the amp grill. If you don't feel any movement or forced air, your amp is in need of viagra because it is dead just like mine. (The amp that is.....:))

To be clear... to test, place your hand on directly on the SUBWOOFER grill (not the AMP grill).

You're making me jealous.

I am wondering if my tint job simply blew the amp channel versus the whole amp as has happened to others. I have not heard back from the other two guys whether or not they have tint jobs or not.

Mine's definitely working, but IMO it still is less than acceptable in providing a hard-hitting crisp bass... especially when cranked up, the bass sounds muddy... B&O continues to be the one option I regret... (my windows are tinted).

Don't regret it! If you are critical about sound, the bose (standard offering) would drive you insane. No highs no lows must be a Bose.

Haha, I had a BOSE OEM system in my Infiniti... oh, the names!!

BLOSE
Better Off With Something Else
Buy Other Sound Equipment

The truth is, it's not terrible, but definitely not the super high end they make themselves out to be.

I too have the Bose in my Infiniti FX45... it's not bad but not great (a lot better than the standard sound system that Infiniti offers in the loaner G35 I had to drive once). I think Bose got a bit too complacent in the auto market and forgot to stay cutting-edge and ahead of the game which explains why many luxury car companies are turning elsewhere - Mark Levinson, Harmon Karden, Bang and Olufsen, etc.

Bose is a good example of positive branding and terrible products. I don't know how they did it, but the marketing man that made it happen is best in class.

This thread has started me thinking that my sub isn't working??
I picked up my car last Friday and to be honest I've been relatively happy with the B&O sound although I was a little disappointed with the amount of bass it seems to put out? Anyway, I've just put the bass setting up to full and opened my boot and the bass sound only seems to be coming from inside the car? I put my hand over the unit that sits on top of all the other units in the left hand side of my boot compartment and I certainly can't feel any air pushing out from it? I actually think the unit on top is an amp, it certainly looks like an amp anyway (silver with grill top)? Can somebody please tell me which one is the sub? If it's not the one on top I don't see how I can test any of the others as they all sit on top of one another? If the sub IS working should I hear the bass in the boot too?

Cheers

Open your trunk and look to the top of the boot. There is an 8" circular device there that looks like a fan. That is your subwoofer. Turn on some bassy music and crank it up. Go back to your boot and place your hand directly on your sub. If you don't feel any movement your sub isn't working.

The dealer just told me yesterday that my sub ws actually throwing a code so they are going to fix under warranty. I still think it's the amp, but they say it's the sub itself....

The Sub in my A5 is working, however from the factory it was lose and rattled against the housing and there was some paper around it. Dealership fixed it in about an hour.

I agree that the highs from the non-B&O system suck. If it is indeed a Bose system...wow. It does suck!

Old topic but want my input

Bose for home audio is not good at all. I bought speakers from menards and they sound better than a bose system. On the other hand my 2003 a6 bose system blew away the b&o in my s5.
