Guys

It's been back to the dealer now 3 times to investigate what feels like a vibration through the body... they have rebalanced the wheels twice and today noticed that when you rev the engine whilst stationary, as it passes through 1500 RPM the whole car vibrates, it continues to get worse peaking at around 2200 RPM.. AND apparently this is normal... I was told to live with it !!! Thought they could balance V8's these days !! Apparently Audi can't......

I'm afraid if this is 'Normal' as suggested I won't be able to live with it and will have to sell her but before we over react do any of you guys get this same 'vibration' with your S5's ?

Cheers

You've been told to live with it???

If I were you, I'd be getting on trading standards or SMMT to submit a complaint.
Cars get faults, your issue is with the Dealer. Call Audi Customer Services and get them involved.
Did you try test driving another S5 to see if it has the same vibration issues?

I've tried and can't find one to compare it with.... there isn't any pre-owned, new or even demo's within 100 miles of here !!!

Did you see sizzle's link in his reply? It appears that this was an issue for others as well.

Yeah.. thanks... I had a read through but it seems to be tire issues, I originally thought this was the line to take but when THEY pointed out to me the engine was vibrating whilst stationary I sort of changed my angle of investigation... they vibration i'm feeling is exactly the same as that whilst revving through the range so presume until further investigation that this is the cause... i'm seeing the head honcho at the dealership on Thurs to explain and discuss all options.. apparently they are taking in an S5 tomorrow so at least I have something to compare it too.... problem is if that one has the same issues i'm not sure whether I can live with it... annoying thing just to kick you in the nuts whilst you're down is that passengers notice it too and think there's something wrong... will let you know how I get on.... thanks all for the advice...
Have they checked the engine mount?

Not too sure, looked at the work sheet when I picked it up tonight and it seems they've just been checking electrics... ecu, plugs, leads etc... i'll hve my home dealer look at it on Thurs and get back to you.. thanks for the lead
My mate had an 06 S4 V8 and he experienced really bad vibration at idle when the car was new. It turned out to be a problem with the flywheel. Different car/engine but thought I'd mention it anyway.
BLIMEY NEIL, Sorry to hear this :(

No advice i'm afraid, but just wishing you get it sorted and get the Smile back on your Face ..... deano :)
I do recall a few flywheel / clutch issues being posted on here... probably worth a search.
Sorry to hear about this unacceptable experience.

I'd go over the stealer's head, straight to Audi UK Corporate, I'm sure they'd be horrified to discover this.
I had that annoying asss vibration with my S5 alll the time... I got rid of it tho for a 2009 m3 coupe....the s5 is hands down better looking....but the m3 is BEEASSTT!!!
Something definitely wrong here...

"passengers notice it too and think there's something wrong"

The only things my passengers say are things like "It's so smooth," "Wow," and "OMG we're gonna die!";)
Hey Guys thanks for all the comments and support...

Just an update... had the wheels dynamically balanced on Friday... it hasn't cured my issues but I can certainly recommend having that done if you do have balancing problems, they found that 3 wheels were out of balance, certainly imporoved the ride quality ... just google 'vibration free' they're near Bicester, close to APS. Anyway digressing, been reading another thread and stateside it seems someone has identified control arms and bushes as being the problem, had them changed and hey presto... no vibration !! Will chase this with the dealer and get back to you....

Cheers

Vibration...idea

JUST A THOUGHT...........

I have a BMW 840Ci (4.4litre V8)...that engine vibrates at low rpm...

BUT only when COLD.

As the crankshaft warms up it is out of balance. Once fully warmed up, it's smooth as silk.

Is your engine vibration prevalent at all temperatures?:confused:
