So I just recently bought a used B8 S5.. got it with 58,000 miles for 20 grand and is by far my biggest purchase yet (I’m 21 don’t hate lol) first things first it’s burning through coolant right off the bat after 7 days of owning it but that’s besides the point. I’m seeing that getting a tune and new exhaust and cold air intake really won’t do much and I need a turbo or super charger. Is there really no way to get it to 400-450 WHP without turbo , super charger or NOS? I feel disappointed as if I purchased the wrong car:confused:

I’d say sell it right away or if you keep it sort out the coolant issue before you undertake any performance upgrades. Adding upgrades prior to fixing the coolant issue could land you with a far bigger more expensive repair.
I’m taking it up to the Audi dealership Tuesday to figure out wether it’s a blown head gasket. I’m not the smartest about cars so forgive the ignorance. This S5 is my first step in the car world. Do you have any recommendations on mods to get an extra 50-100 WHP after I do figure out this coolant issue?

That’s good to know you’re getting the coolant issue looked at first.

Basic mods could include:
Aftermarket Exhaust, res/non res or xpipe for example.
Air filter swap, air intake mods and remapping.
It all depends on your budget.
Have a search on here, there is a decent S5 community and many have posted information of their mods and gains, here’s a starter for you:

But as Mr Fergus says this is really not the correct car for tuning mate. Any big engine which is normally aspirated can only be given marginal power boosts for a substantial amount of money. That V8 has 350 plus horses from new and you really need to bring her back up as far as you can towards that figure. If its a bigger bang you want then you are better off selling and try the V6 S5 cos she is turbo........

Congrats on a good V8 GT coupe! :)

The water pump, thermostat, even cracked coolant bottles and dodgy coolant bottle caps can give leaks and not a major job, fingers crossed it's something like this!

Unfortunately the V8 will only give a bit of extra power as it's a naturally aspirated engine. Big power increases come with forced intake like supercharger and turbos. You may get an extra 20bhp with exhaust, intake and a map may give a few extra bhp ontop. These engines do like a supercharger and kits are available for around $25k!

Also you may have lost power due to carbon in the intake which these engines being direct injection do suffer from. It has been known to loose about 75bhp due to carbon build up.

So get the coolant issue sorted, then have it checked for carbon build up and go from there.

I have the V6 3.0 supercharged S5 with around 460bhp, but I don't have that lovely V8 sound! :)

Appreciate the advice and the concerns! I am getting it checked by a local Euro shop so I’ll make sure I ask them to include that as well
