Looking for a new grille for 2014 S5. Is license plate back necessary for where license plates in front are not required? Want a honeycomb grille without license plate?

There are many makers of the RS style grille! I chose mine by looking into the details, like the license plate mount/backing is separate or not.
I think on most the plate mount is separate. On my A5 3.0tdi, I didn't have it, just screwed the plate directly onto the grille, but decided to fit the mount on my S5 as it is a legal requirement to have a front license plate, mount or not.
But I shortened the mount to suit my short plate.
If you are not required to display a front plate, then I would leave it off.
