Just to clarify, I'm talking about the Google earth view, not the 'standard maps' or anything else. I don't know about you but find the real world view much easier to read than the other views....
I think I found the problem, so I thought I'd share...
I spoke to Audi customer service UK who informed me that as of January 2021 some cars are not eligible for Google Earth view anymore and some cars are, I assume this is probably to do with the cost of the service. Fortunately mine is so I would assume anything post 2017 would also be?
Just found out this affects MY18 Audis as well- Australian Dealership said that Google has a requirement for newer hardware, allowing Google Earth to work in the Vehicle. As a result, they are deprecating the service on the MY18 vehicle. The problem has manifested on a mates My18 S4 . My own My18 S5 is still working however, D Day according to Audi is December 31st when the service will stop. At this stage, there is no Hardware upgrade roadmap available. Really disappointed in Audi , I waited for the My18 virtual cockpit so that I could have Google, and to date, it has been excellent . Google are known for this behavior and basing your business-critical applications on their service is sketchy.
I will do the same. Mine is a MY18 S5 and loved the Google Maps view. To be honest, I thought my other half had been tinkering with it when she was driving around so had presumed I just needed to figure out how to reset it. Thanks for the thread!I had my google maps updated at an Audi garage today, it took about an hour and was free of charge.
They informed me Google have changed satellite providers and that's the reason the it needed to be updated. So i now have the google earth view back albeit with a little disclaimer at the top of my screen now - picture attached. it reads ...
Imagery 2020 bluesky Getmapping PLC, infoterra Ltd & nce road.
The ArenBluesky, Maxar Technologies, The Geoinformation Group.
This notice i didn't have before but it seems to stick at the top of the screen. Its a little annoying considering the map is so dense so this is just more text on screen - but i'm just happy its back.
Anyway - if anyone else has this problem i suggest you take it to your local garage.

That helps me @Les 57 - thank you for sharingGood news and bad news depending on how old your car is. I phoned my dealer who "knew nothing about it". So I rang Audi UK who did. Their licencing agreement with Google Earth has expired but they have signed up to a similar system called Satellite Maps. Audi inform me that they will install the new system onto my car. Now the good /bad bit. Google Earth was valid for the car for 3 years from new. If it's within that period they will do so free. If it's outside of that then you have to pay. It's all tied up in Audi Connect, you pick which bits you want on your App and it tells you how much the subscription is. I rang the dealer again and miraculously they knew all about it and its booked in for Saturday. The car also needs an engine update download so that's getting done at the same time.
Hope this helps

Hello all,I know the Google online will not work
Hello all,
that is not entirely true
I'm happy to share that there is option to bring back the sat images for the MMI systems
For more info on PM.
p.s. Its not free but it's not expensive either.
Please ask Congo about this information he is the expert! Is this subject to a license that Audi controls as well? Or should it be able to provide satellite imagery as long as we have data connectivity to the car?
Yeah same for me. The script and your service would be nice to get. I also not allowed to contact you @congo directly via PM.Hello all,
