Hi All

Quick question, randomly my google maps view has stopped working and is replaced with a download bar and a 'google maps initiating' screen on the main MMI with blue world in the background.

I found a couple of other threads on here with similar issues and the fix was a reset but holding 'maps + Radio + the big wheel button' down and it does correctly reset the MMI system, but my maps still shows downloading screen for some time and I have reset twice now. Ive been on an hour + drive and the maps still hasn't downloaded and the bar doesn't seem to progress very far after about 75% complete.

Any ideas here?

Thanks

Just to clarify, I'm talking about the Google earth view, not the 'standard maps' or anything else. I don't know about you but find the real world view much easier to read than the other views....

I think I found the problem, so I thought I'd share...

I spoke to Audi customer service UK who informed me that as of January 2021 some cars are not eligible for Google Earth view anymore and some cars are, I assume this is probably to do with the cost of the service. Fortunately mine is so I would assume anything post 2017 would also be?

The annoyance is that the only fix for this would be to book it into an Audi Garage to reconnect the service/licence. Which could explain why my download stops at a certain point and never correctly finishes.

All seems a bit much in my opinion, as I'm having to wait to mid December for a booking and then they need the car all day to 'investigate' a problem created by Audi. I can't understand it really, you'd think it would be self diagnosed and resolved given the car has a lot of tech.

Thought I'd share in case anyone else has a similar issue.

Just found out this affects MY18 Audis as well- Australian Dealership said that Google has a requirement for newer hardware, allowing Google Earth to work in the Vehicle. As a result, they are deprecating the service on the MY18 vehicle. The problem has manifested on a mates My18 S4 . My own My18 S5 is still working however, D Day according to Audi is December 31st when the service will stop. At this stage, there is no Hardware upgrade roadmap available. Really disappointed in Audi , I waited for the My18 virtual cockpit so that I could have Google, and to date, it has been excellent . Google are known for this behavior and basing your business-critical applications on their service is sketchy.

That is strange considering mine is a 2017 model and Audi have said it can be upgraded in the UK. I have it booked in for this friday the 17th Dec, so i will post the outcome of that.

I really hope someone will come up with the solution of the OFFLINE GEMMI cache update for MMI 3G+.
I could live with updating yearly once or twice.

Probably when MIB1-2 will also shut down more people realize the problem!

I had my google maps updated at an Audi garage today, it took about an hour and was free of charge.
They informed me Google have changed satellite providers and that's the reason the it needed to be updated. So i now have the google earth view back albeit with a little disclaimer at the top of my screen now - picture attached. it reads ...

Imagery 2020 bluesky Getmapping PLC, infoterra Ltd & nce road.
The ArenBluesky, Maxar Technologies, The Geoinformation Group.

This notice i didn't have before but it seems to stick at the top of the screen. Its a little annoying considering the map is so dense so this is just more text on screen - but i'm just happy its back.

Anyway - if anyone else has this problem i suggest you take it to your local garage.

I will do the same. Mine is a MY18 S5 and loved the Google Maps view. To be honest, I thought my other half had been tinkering with it when she was driving around so had presumed I just needed to figure out how to reset it. Thanks for the thread!

Thanks to all,
I've just come back to UK after hols and my Google Earth is doing exactly this. I'll get onto the dealership on Monday.
Saved me hours of unnecessary button crunching.

Good news and bad news depending on how old your car is. I phoned my dealer who "knew nothing about it". So I rang Audi UK who did. Their licencing agreement with Google Earth has expired but they have signed up to a similar system called Satellite Maps. Audi inform me that they will install the new system onto my car. Now the good /bad bit. Google Earth was valid for the car for 3 years from new. If it's within that period they will do so free. If it's outside of that then you have to pay. It's all tied up in Audi Connect, you pick which bits you want on your App and it tells you how much the subscription is. I rang the dealer again and miraculously they knew all about it and its booked in for Saturday. The car also needs an engine update download so that's getting done at the same time.

Hope this helps

GOOGLE LAYOUT OFFLINE 3G+ usage HELP

I know the Google online will not work any more, but I hope some EXPERTS can help how to use the offline already downloaded database without network connection.

I have chacked the current cache in the green menu. 21% is used. It is 350MB.

(now i understand why you had to upload the GEMMI, MAPSTYLES and COMBISTYLES because for the map update you have to delete the NAV partition.)

I have downloaded the following folders from the NAV partition. The 2 sections are identical at least the CACHE and TEMP folders.

mount -uw /mnt/nav
/mnt/img-cache/gemmi/.config
/mnt/img-cache/gemmi/cache
/mnt/img-cache/gemmi/scache
/mnt/img-cache/gemmi/temp
/mnt/nav/gemmi/.config
/mnt/nav/gemmi/cache
/mnt/nav/gemmi/scache
/mnt/nav/gemmi/temp
/mnt/nav/gemmi

Here is a link with my backup and the script what I have used to save the above listed folders.

661.32 MB folder on MEGA

Would be nice if someone can find solution, before a new map update will come up, and everybody will delete Google maps cache.

Now I have the following error if I remove the SIM and then I try to get the Google overlay.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah same for me. The script and your service would be nice to get. I also not allowed to contact you @congo directly via PM.
Anyhow the Google service is stopped since 3 weeks again. @congo is it possible to contact me for your service?

Thanks
