It's a 2010 first gen RS5, black with 20 inch rotors, sunroof, rear window shade and B&O. Previous owner had an Akrapovic installed and the car is chipped, probably removing the speed limit. Sounds amazing, but I need to let it grow on me a bit. Tyres need replacement so no wild trips yet.

More pictures. Been driving it for a few weeks and I love the versatility of the RS5. It's absolutely usable as every day driving machine, cruising at 100 KM/h it runs 10 liters per 100 km easily. Shift it into dynamic and it becomes an absolute beast, with hard shift, insane acceleration and all the noises to add to the drama.

Finally had some time at hand to change the rotors and pads and flush the brake fluid. Was a delight to work on these compared to the Brembo brakes I had on my Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0 V6 and GT 3.2 V6. All 8 pistons can move freely and can be pushed back by hand. I was used to revising the calipers after 5 years, no need for that this time.

I got lucky and was able to source the Zimmermann Formula Z rotors for a fraction of the dealer price. Added some street Ferodo pads as I'm in no intention of taking the RS to the track.

Large update after almost a year and 20.000 KM into RS5 ownership. Slowly getting more used to the car and it's still a joy to drive. It's my daily and we take it everywhere. Had a great summer driving through the Alps and into Italy. As a precaution I had the intake wallnut blasted and all the injectors revised. Carbon build up was not that bad, but it never hurts to clean it out.

Unfortunately the new rotors are warped and need to be replaced. Ordered some original B8.5 wave discs as a replacement. I still need to do the rear rotors, so that will keep me occupied next weekend.

Two weeks ago my S-Tronic gearbox broke down with a "gearbox malfunction, you can continue driving". Seems to be a common problem with the gear lever position sensor. Took it to a DSG specialist for a full analysis of the box, clutch and mechatronik. Except for the sensor they could not find any further problems and we decided to fix this box with an upgraded sensor, new clutch and stage 2+ DSG tune.

Just got it back and it drives beautiful, the throttle response in Dynamic is much better than stock. When driven normally it shifts at 4.000 rpm, only when you give it some throttle it revs all the way up to 8.250. I used to flip it to manual when driving with the exhaust flaps open, now I can leave it in auto. Nice improvement. They also adjusted the clutch pressure as the car is chipped and added some more drivability upgrades.

Enough talk, let's throw in some pictures:

A year into RS5 daily driving. Time for an update with some pics. We took the RS5 on holiday to Italy this summer with the entire family. Two kids in the back and driving mountain passes in the alps is quite a joy with this machine. The first picture was taken on the Stelvio but the route over the Gavia was even more impressive.

Upgrades and maintenance:
Unfortunately the Zimmermann brakes that I mounted half a year before were warped. Decided to go for OEM and fitted the SHW performance rotors from the B8.5 when we got back. I had to replace the spoiler control module as moisture had eaten away the insides of the unit. Found an A7 unit for 50 euro's and it was a 1:1 fit. Biggest repair was a faulty gearbox position sensor. It's a common DSG problem with the DL501. Took it in for a replacement at TVS engineering in the Netherlands to get the sensor replaced. Decided to change the clutch and upgrade to a stage 2+ tuning.

So far I've driven the RS5 on a daily basis and done 30.000 km in a year. It's remarkable how usable it is to drive, sometimes you forget there is a 450+ HP V8 under the bonnet. Drivability is greatly improved with the stage 2 DSG tune. It no longer revs to 6.000+ in dynamic, unless you give it some good throttle. When driving less aggressive it is far better usable as a sporty alternative to the "auto" option with the exhaust flaps open and sporty downshifts. So far this one is a keeper.
