View attachment 176896 I have had an on going minor oil leak from the area shown in the photo. I've had the gear box sump pan gasket and sump pan changed with no luck. The leak may be coming from a gap between two castings on the gear box. I'm reluctant to have the gear box removed due to labour costs if it is not necessary. However I'm wondering if this is yet another known problem Audi keep quiet about.

Yep, that looks like the bell housing/input shaft oil seal, or the crank seal. Both mean gearbox off. Does the oil have a pungent smell, if so, it is gear oil.

I've not heard of this oil leak before.

Thanks Dave, gearbox oil changed not that many miles ago. Will have a chat to the local 'specialist' again.
