I did some comparison numbers for the first time last night between a fairly loaded 3.2L A5 and an equally-equipped S5. The biggest kicker is that a loaded A5 has nearly $5000 worth of options (S-Line, Premium package) that are actually standard on the S5. Which means if you are the type to have S-Line and Premium, then it's less than a $7k difference between the two cars. Financed across 72 months (for example's sake), this comes out to less than a $100 difference per month.
Obviously the operational cost is different due to the gas mileage, but it's still food for thought if anyone was on the fence about it, or felt that the S5 was absolutely out of their price range.
