Hope the write up helped,

Was planning on doing mine (wasn't locking with car and no audible noise when pressing the key-fob) However a couple of days ago I noticed I could hear a click and when I checked it had started working again! Possibly the same cable release problem as the central locking on the doors (poor or corroded liner?) I know the actuator doesn't use a cable, but the emergency manual pull on the inner does.
I'd give it some lube and check the connectors first. Might save yourself a job.

After 1 year from the replacement, the actuator went off again!!!
I asked the dealer for price. He also mentioned that the part number has been changed.
8KO 862 153H (it was 153F).
Second replacement is on the go.

I carried out this lock swap this afternoon following the OP's thread  after previously buying a new lock and filler surround as part of a fix-kit from my Audi Dealer.

Rather than trying to get a screwdriver between the surround and bodywork and prise the surround out from the metal body of the car and risk scratching it, there are four small rectangular indents round the outside of the surround - these can be seen in the 4th photo in the OP's post. Okocha - Hope you don't mind me copying this in here

http://www.a5oc.com/forums/attachme...83080-fuel-flap-locking-actuator-img_0536.jpg

These indents are positioned in front of the locking tabs on the rear of the surround that hold it in place and the plastic is thin enough to be pierced through with a screwdriver which can then be levered up or down to release the locking tabs behind. Obviously having poked a screwdriver through the plastic surround doesn't leave it very water tight so I guess this is why the surround is sold as part of the kit.

The kit isn't very expensive. When I bought mine in Nov 2012 I paid £16.64 for the actuator and £14.32 for the surround. Both prices included the dreaded 20% VAT. Both the actuator (lock) and surround have been modified slightly from the originals fitted at time of manufacture - at least they had been on my 2007 car.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Marty

I think mine just failed on me. I can't open the fuel door at all. I suppose I have to go in an use the manual release (I didn't try it yet). Sound like a bad actuator or perhaps a short somewhere in the central locking system? I don't have an CEL's or anything and all the other locking features seem to work.

Yep, that'll be your actuator for sure.

What a handy thread! Thanks Oko and great tip on the tempermental release Di4 . I checked mine too, you guessed it as it didn't make a sound upon activation with the hand held key.
(Inefilo) I purchased here

Excellent technique Marty, thanks again everyone; install took about 10 minutes (thanks to all of your help)! Stefan

Just got a new actuator from my dealer and ready to fit. Just had a quick snoop at Elsawin and it says you must renew the flap/cover. Anyone managed it without damaging it?

8K0 862 153 H. I think you also need the rubber shroud too as it will most likely get damaged when removed.

So glad I have read this post. Just been out and checked mine and it's not locked even though the car is! Just presumed it was locked.

Does the rubber surround come with the actuator when you order or do you have to order them separately?

Going to give this a go trying to fix myself :yikes: more worried about taking the rubber flap thing off than anything else. Is it quite hard to get off? Can someone give step by step instructions for pulling the flappy thing off for a lady to follow?!

Thanks

Thank you. Have seen the pictures but just wanted more details of getting the flap bit off without damaging it. Just shows picture of it on and picture off and to get screwdriver behind! That scares me! Just want a bit more info on amount of force to use and if its the four tiny square holes that everyone is forcing screwdriver into and which direction to apply force.

Good job we looked at this as turns out husbands car fuel flap not locking either.

Will just have to risk it this weekend if get parts in from Audi in time. :yikes:

Parts are separate... will dig out number when I can. Mine gives an error on the code read as short to ground but doesn't appear to lock ever... despite occasinally there being an audible clunk from the unit when you open or lock the car via the remote.

Hi,
I can understand your concerns, but if you just tap a sharp bladed narrow screwdriver through the 4 indents you will then just be able to prise the retaining tabs out behind.

I'll go and see if I still have the old one in the garage and if so will try to take some photos to show how I did it.

Back soon......

Nice one Marty. My actuator has been sat in the box for months (mainly due to the weather) waiting to be installed. Haven't got the rubber cover so would love to know if it's possible to do it without scrapping the old one.
Didn't want to start the job and end up finding I didn't have the parts half way through ;-)
