Someone at the German motor-talk forum found a coding to activate the "passenger mirror tilt when reversing" option, even if you don't have the memory seats, which usually are mandatory for this feature.

I've tried the coding and indeed it works!
The tilting is not that much though, but can be usable to prevent curb-rash :).

The coding is:

Module 52: Door Elect, Pass.: Byte 4
Value 40, change to 4C (non-folding mirrors mounted)
Value 50, change to 5C (folding mirrors mounted)

Happy hackin'! ;)

To anyone in Sydney that wants to try it. I'm happy to help. Unfortunately I have the memory pack so is kind of useless to try on my own car. Quattro Joe, whenever you are ready

Do you have electric seats or will this work on any A5?

I was only asking this same question on here the other week and I was told that it couldn't be done, looks like it can, thanks EuroDan! :D

I don't have the electric seats either but can this option still be added to my Car via VAG-COM??

Also, is there anyone on here from the Beds/Herts/Bucks area that has VAG-COM and would be willing to do this for me, at a price obviously? ;)

Thanks

Ok just tested myself.. works! european car.

I dont have electric seats but I do have electrically folding and dimming
side-mirrors. I can confirm the value 50 to 5C is the correct for dimming
mirrors also, like it is for folding-only mirrors. (I tried it on the drivers side too,
but that didnt work and according to manual it shouldnt either.)

It works like described in the manual. If the mirror knob is in passenger
position and you switch reverse, the mirror will tilt. Drive forward
15km/h+ and it will tilt back up to original pos. You can also tilt it up and
down while in reverse by turning the mirror knob to and from passenger
position if you want to test the tilt while stationary. If you turn off the car
while in reverse, the mirror will tilt back up automatically. Very nice.

The one thing it does not do is remember if you adjust the reverse tilt.
The up and down tilt is a pre-defined amount. You can adjust it
manually of course but the automatic tilt up after reverse is pre-defined.

That might require the memory module or maybe some coding somwhere else,
but the amount of tilt up and down is not adjustable like the manual
says it is for cars with memory. Maybe an adaptation channel
somewhere.. But the standard amount seems useful compromise between
seeing more curb and reasonable rear too, I actually surprised
how really useful it was reverse/forward/reverse parking into my
garage, it made it easier to see a lowstanding wall structure sooner.

Definitely a keeper. Future projects might include looking for ways
to adjust the tilt from vag com for personal preference?

For me it works too.

Electrical seats with no memory buttons (but recoded by VCDS for memory into the keys), no folding/dimming mirrors.

True, I noticed this today also.
Bummer, because it doesn't tilt up enough again to return the position I like.
I'm going to leave the modified code there, will just turn the knob for the mirrors to the center position so I don't need to adjust my mirror each time I went into reverse for backing out of my garage :)
