A few days ago I parked my car up for Christmas. Just before I reverse parked it up a slight incline the engine stalled. I restarted it, but it felt sluggish and was idling at really low revs <500. I completed the reverse parking and left the car until yesterday (5days).
On pushing the key fob in the engine turns but there is no ignition. I have changed the spark plugs and the crank sensor, VCDS has no fault codes. I have taken the battery out to charge over night.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the fault could possibly be ?

Also if I need to tow it to a garage how do I release the electronic hand brake with no engine power?

You should be able to release parking brake with vcds as long as you have good battery.If you put p/brake in sevice mode I dont think it will re engage without a vcds instruction.

Manual gearbox 1.8 TFSI CABD engine.
Just done a compression check on 2 cylinders, no compression ! Think the timing chain may have failed ?

Update on my vehicle : Received it back from the garage today. Initial diagnosis and inspection identified the timing chain had jumped. Damage only to the cylinder head. Full cylinder head recondition carried out with inlet valve face skimmed 0.003” due to some minor flaws detected. Off for a test drive soon to see if the £2000 bill was worth keeping the car

How did the timing chain jump? Cause from belt tensioner?
Do you have the 3.0 TDI or 2.0 TFSI?
Also mileage just so we know some more in depth details for future posters on troubleshooting 👍🏻
