This morning when I opened my door the handle felt a bit stiff. When I closed the door it bounced open again. The latch wasn't catching. The window dropped as it should but the exterior door handle felt like it wasn't attached to anything. As it had rained overnight and then frozen I assumed that something in the mechanism had frozen.
I then held the door shut with the heater on full and afete 15 minutes it started to work again.
Is this an isolated issue or is it common.
I'm now going to ring my local dealer to try and get it sorted

I get that occasionally in the cold weather with both doors. When you pull the door handle it sticks in the out position. I just push the handle in again and the latching mechanism works ok.

I am getting sick to the back teeth of my window being frozen and the door not closing. I now drive to work with it closed on the latch but not fully closed as I am sick of pouring warm water on the bottom of the window to unfreeze it. Bloody frameless windows

All 5's have got the problem with the stickig door handles. Sometimes when you open the door the handle doesn't retract, and then when you pull the door closed it just bounces back out again and doesn't close.

Speary, was this happening even though your handle was fully retracted?

Not had that on mine.

I have had the frozen door problem though where the window doesnt drop and the door "bounces".

Yes, it was as thought the handle wasnt connected to anything. It seemed to go back to normal when it warmed up
Perhaps some liberal greasing of the internal mechanism may prevent it happening again. Thing is I dont fancy taking off the door trim to do it

Have a look at my previous post regarding unsticking the window with an old credit card. Works every time

Car into dealer to fix knocking noise so I explained about the sticking door handle when its icy.
They fixed it by removing the handle and filing a bit off the mechanism and then lubricating it. Worked fine this morning. Apparently this is a known problem and fix within Audi.

They also fitted the exhaust trims I bought from them for FREE :)

My drivers door did this last winter,a little squirt of WD40 under the handle into the mechanism cured it,no need to remove interior door card:)
Good post! WD40 will disperse any water left around the handle/mechanism, so there is nothing to freeze! It will also lubricate the mechanism to allow smoother operation.

My passenger door handle is actually not working properly at all, it's been to the dealer and requires a new part in order to fix it. In my case the door handle stick on the outside and also the door doesn't close properly.

Part is on back order at the moment so car will be back at teh dealer in a couple of weeks.

Common problem, had both door handles replaced under warranty. My previous BM had the same problem.

Also had this on my 330Ci. The drivers door didn't open from the outside. I spent 2 months opening the passanger door and reaching accross to open the drivers door from inside. It was great fun on windy days.

Had this issue with my A5 Cab today. I am used to the window not dropping, had this in previous cold weather and has the same with my old Astra Coupe Cabriolet. A CC slid along the seal where the window meets the door fixes this, however the door mechanism freezing inside is new to me. TBH I am amazed that this can be an issue, it wasn't even that cold and previous cars have always managed to have working doors in far colder temperatures. Anyway it's under extended warranty until the end of this month, is it worth me seeing if Audi can do anything to prevent this in the future or should I just try the WD40 method? I do not see why I should need to sit in the cold in the car for 20 minutes while waiting for the door to close so I can drive off. So any suggestions of what has worked for others would be great.

Thanks

IIRC there is a fix for the faulty internal mechanism. Go to your dealer and politely insist that the fix it
