Hey guys i noticed that many of the members here are from europe.
My question is if the navigation system allows for TV to be selected in your euro spec cars? i would love to see some pics...

sadly,
over here in the US, this is definitely not a factory option.
I however was able to get this done on my BMW by installing the factory tv tuner ordered from germany.
is this also possible to do in the audis? it would be such a great add on.
thanks guys..

TV option is linked to the "media" button on the MMI. You can switch between CD, TV (and external AV if you have a playstation or dvd player attached). There is no need to switch between analogue and digital channels as it lists them altogether. There is also an EPG for the digital channels but no ability to pause ;)

Picture quality with digital transmissions is very good as you would expect with a small screen (it fills the whole MMI screen).

If no-one beats me to it, I will take some pics and post them (wont be today though).

oh man thanks for the information..
i just saw the other link that SAJ posted...
now would a US spec car only need to buy this TV tuner (from the website mentioned on the other link) and just plug it in to get this function?
i don't think the US spec cars have the Media button or do they? can anyone chime in?

thanks

I would drop the guyz from that website an e-mail as they will most likely be able to answer any questions you have, as I don't think anyone from the US has actually retrofitted TV yet...well not any of the members on here anyway.

The media button is the one next to radio. You press it for CD as well.

Apparantly the US version of the sat nav doesnt have the same options available either (no 3d mode for example).

will you stop it doubleboom...you're making me really jealous! haha =P
what the heck is the 3d mode? =)
The sat nav display is directly overhead (and thefore 2d) but 3d mode is basically overhead and from behind. A bit like many personal handheld sat nav systems like tomtom.

Personally, I dont like 3d mode as most road names are not displayed in that but those used to the 3d mode on handhelds may prefer it.

I think it is funny that in the UK there are such stiff penalties for using a cell phone while driving, but you are allowed to watch the tele (or does the MMI screen only show tv when the car is stopped?

i believe tv in motion is deactivated...with any nav/tv's
and you will get a warning message, and a blank screen.

ahhh ok i know what you mean..
it's like playing a 3d video game roaming around the city...
i believe the japanese really have this function fine tuned in their nav's.

oh btw doc7string,
can't wait till your car comes in, i have yet to see any good pics of deep sea blue. I don't think the car configurator on the audi site is a good representation of it correct?

I agree, the Audi pic is not as dark as the real thing. I will take many pics and post them here when I get it. Hopefully I will be able to get an accurate depiction for you.
