I did the above also and noticed a huge "difference in enjoyment", do as oldsat says and you will see for yourself, if you go for the TDI you could just stick an S5 badge on it like the guy I mentioned previously.....:thumbsdown:
:laughinatabove::laughinatabove:

This almost prompts another thread..

What other badges do people stick on or remove from their car to pretend it's something else.... 'Today Matthew (for those who remember) I'm going to be a Skoda Superb..... WTF Leave it alone...

WTF ? Wholly relevant to this thread in my opinion.

I'm simply highlighting the case of a gorgeous sepang 3.0TDI being falsified with an S5 badge.

Clearly this 3.0TDI owner aspires to. Would an S5 owner ever "re-badge" their car.....?....doubtful.

No that appeals to my sense of fun M33. I came across an old 1.2 Badge in my garage the other day. Wonder where I should stick that. Will all the engine downsizing maybe we will see an S5 1.2 one day!!

Thanks for all the comments guys and girls. Every good story must have an ending, so I thought I'd share mine:

I've just put down a deposit on a nearly new A5 3.0 TDI coupe Black Edition and should be collecting it next week :)

Same dilemna!

Well I'm in the same dilemna but I haven't tested a 3.0 TDI! I've driven the 4.2 S5 and the new V6... the 4.2 was not for me (The noise was cool, but too much of it for everyday driving!) whereas the V6 felt much more refined and when cruising down some A-roads it just seemed more sophisticated somehow. I'm coming from an A6 Avant (2.0 TDI) but in my younger days had a 2.5T Focus, which I loved...

Dealers not helpful. Practically had to chop my arm off just to get a V6 to test for 20 minutes... and there's fat chance of getting a 3.0 TDI to test...

Auto gearbox all the way for me. Always had manual but borrowed an XF Jag auto for a couple of weeks last year and loved it.

So is it worth testing the 3.0 TDI just for comparison?

I would say so, I'm 3.0l Quattro and it's a no brainer for me as I was bored paying thru the roof for fuel. I've had a civic type r and an rx8 prior to the diesel and they both screamed, but with a remap and enough torque to rip a hole in the tarmac go diesel, you won't regret it.

My 2 cents...

If we had the TDI choice in the US, I would be driving that instead of my S5. It wouldn't even had been a hard decision.

The first brand to put a V6 diesel in their coupe (A5, 3er, E klasse) will have my money. They still have a year or two before I start thinking about trading in the S5, so here's hoping.
