It's been ages since i test drove the A5. It was an 07 build. Does this have the speed in digital by holding the bottom button on the right-side stalk.

Also on the manuel car, does it tell you the currant gear and recommended gear change on the DIS?

Yes, you get the speed in digital by pressing the button on the right hand stalk and scrolling through the display options.

What kind of car does Manuel drive? (does he like currants?)

The display will show the current gear and, if you choose, the suggested gear. (this can be switched off if you like).

The in gear and recommended gear can be set to be displayed in the MMI screen, even on the 1.8 models

am i right in saying the mmi is the interface. So where audi concert/symph/nav plus is displayed? Like the car setup, etc?

I noticed on the new A4 it's displayed at the bottom of the DIS.

It does have the arrow, but I surely wouldn't accept the recommended shift points unless you want to tool around town at 1200 rpms in 6th gear.

The recommended gear works well and allows you to save the engine and a little petrol for the best gear change. It also recommends gear changes down if you stay in a gear and the car starts to labor.

Amusingly it gives up the recommendation when you drive it hard.

I like it.

I have the a 3.0TDI Manual and it recommends for me to change at 4000 and a bit revs when my foot is to the floor.

Not sure if it is being economical or it's the optimum point to change.

The MPG at this point is reading 12....

Checked today. In 5th at about 1900 rpms driving around town (somewhere in the 40's mph) the "recommendation" was to shift into 6th. Not only would this be low on the power band if I had to accelerate all of a sudden, but it is also harder to keep the speed down. I mean just a little bit of extra gas could produce red and blue lights in my rear view mirror.
