CREC 3.0T carbon cleaning question

832 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  SimonRoma
I'm familiar with the process to carbon clean the previous gen motors but given that the CREC has a second set of injectors, I'm not sure what needs to be done differently in order to do a walnut blast carbon cleaning.

What is the process to remove the PI and after removal, does anything need to be replaced, i.e orings?

Any assistance would be appreciated!

I have only seen photos of the valves of a single CREC engine and I can't remember the mileage but I can remember that they were fairly clean - enough that I thought that the engine may not need cleaning except at very high mileage. How bad do yours look?

Unfortunately, I did not take a picture the last time I had my blower off. I've seen photos of others with a crec and they are much cleaner than mine. I believe I have a bad PCV which is likely the cause of the excessive carbon.

I've purchased everything to replace the pcv, tstat, and water pump. Figured why not clean them while I already have everything off.
That's not so good to hear - Audi revised the PCV on the CREC.
Before you go down that route have you tried running some of the good additives thro?? STP comes to mind or Redex or Bardahl all seem to work very well.
