Recently purchased an 8T RS5 and had a crank seal leak diagnosed, fair bit of oil on undertray and a few drips after a drive.

Added some Proma Mbl8 as part of my oil change schedule and strangely since then the oil leak disappeared.

Audi had resealed the whole engine for previous owner at a cost of $8000 NZ (about $5k usd) and have offered to replace the crank seal (not a small job).

I'm getting it done, but wonder if I had a pin hole pinch or seating issues and if the proma mbl8 has plugged it?

Mbl8 contains small sub 10 micron copper and lead particles and perhaps these have backed up and sealed the leak?

Anyway if you haven't heard of Proma mbl8 100,000kms over 10 years in a 3sgte Mr2 and my big end bearings were only just started to delaminate 210,000kms ml)

Wow that’s a lucky break! Audi dealership actually admitting warranty fault and processing it. Well that’s a first in my book, let us know what the drive is like afterwards!

I’m going to chime in on my opinion here about additives... like with Pro-Ma it contains heavy metals and distillates within the engine. Okay initially right, but prolonged use with more of the metals being deposited in the engine is bad. So it will have detrimental effects on mechanical parts in the long run.

Just a precaution for you especially on such a tuned engine like the RS5. I would always recommend more oil changes rather than additives to be honest.

All the best,

You should definitely use polyurethane sealant to solve the issue. It should work out for you, but I can’t be hundred percent sure. I had some issues with finding a good caulk for my shower lately . I searched everywhere and I couldn’t find any information . I asked my friend for help, but unfortunately, he couldn’t help me out, and the only thing he could do is sending me a link to a website https://sealwithease.com/what-is-the-best-kind-of-caulk-to-use-in-a-shower/ that had an article about the Best caulk for shower . I decided to read it, and after reading it, I instantly ordered it and I wasn’t disappointed at all. In the end, I applied the it correctly, and the issue is solved.
