you dont need vag com. You can change the measurement settings in the MMI.

Belive me I can't change this setting in MMI ... everything but not consumption display.

I can change: temperature C or F, distance miles or km, speed mph or km/h ... but nothing there about consumption display.

Change the units to metric system (Km) and everything should change accordingly.
On my A3 with no MMI I'm able to do this in just a few "clicks"

I done all changes in MMI settings and everything display metric - speed, distance, temperature but consumption MPG. It's not possible to change this in MMI settings. If you don't belive ask about that someone from USA - changes in MMI settings don't bring any results for consumption display in Audi A5.

Here is information something obout that coding - http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Audi_A5_(8T)_Instrument_Cluster

"Consumption Display - mpg (Great Britain) ; mpg (USA) ; l/100km ; km/l"

but still nothing now about what byte and bit is for that option - long coding.

We intentionally did not publish to many details about each bit/byte and only give a brief overview in the WIKI due to competitors recently copying our research without asking. Obviously we do not wanna work for others so we decided to move all real details into our long coding assist. Simply open up the control module in question and the assist will guide you what to alter and what not. ;)

Sebastian, I have orginal Ross-Tech HEX-USB+CAN interface and VCDS 805.3 but long coding assist (Lcode) for 8T Audi A5 and 17 Instruments is very very pour ... there is only few options with details. Most of that long code is without suggestions. I buy that interface but for now I'm disappointed. So I'm looking for help in other source.

I am scratching my head here to be honest, the instrument cluster coding is FULLY documented in VCDS Release 805 and Beta 812 as well. Both give you more details there than any other tool on the market right now - including the dealers VAS.

Where exactly are you having problems? Where do you think there are too few details? Why don't you give us a current Auto-Scan from your vehicle so we have something to work with?

The general problem with the newer models at the moment is that nobody has full details for all control module, not we and not the dealers. We are working every day to complete and enhance the information we have and with each data version you'll see more and more gaps being filled. I am sorry that you are disappointed by our tool but OTOH I cannot remember having seen an email from you to us where you pointed that out. If you don't tell us where you are having problems we get no chance to help you, which doesn't help with your frustration. So please at least give us a chance to help you here...

Hello

I was send my auto-scan here http://netech.dk/fr-teche.html - I found that site in Lcode. I send my autoscan for you if you want - maybe you and your team tell me what coding (17 Instruments or 09 Central electronics) I must do to change consumption display from MPG to L/100km. Thank you for your attention to my problem.

Yep, that would help. Please send it to me via email (see signature for address).

As for the #09 coding, it isn't related here but you are right we do not have that fully documented yet. Problem there is as described that VW has not published a coding table yet and therefor neither the dealers nor we have that information. We hope to enhance that part of the documentation soon.

I try change by long coding in VCDS, and by settings in MMI but I can't change this. Audi A5 US version don't have option Instrument Cluster (Gauges) to change display consumption from mpg to l/100km. Only change all gauges to EU version give result. Gauges EU ver. have option to change from l/100km to mpg and reverse ... US version SUCK!

any updates ? same problem here..

Finally the solution is that u ve got to reset the MMI settings in order for the new values to take place :

[17 - Instruments]
[Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 7
Bit 2-3 – Consumption Display: km/l

and the important thing is to :

Reset MMI settings in “Car->Setup->Settings->Default settings”

it worked for me !
