Confusion on S5

So I have been reading up on the S5 as I am looking into getting one. I'm confused as to what the waiting is for the US. I want a fully loaded S5, tiptronic. Any help greatly appreciated. I've seen anywhere from 1 year, to 2 months  ...

For whatever reason, Audi are being VERY slow to provide U.S. dealerships with allocations of S5's. For instance, a high volume dealership might only receive an allocation of 3 S5's for a given month. Well, if that dealership has 20 deposits from customers already, that means the top 3 customers on the waiting list would get those next 3 allocated cars.

As for you seeing a reference to 2 months, that might have been a situation where someone cancelled their order and another customer got to take their spot in line (i.e., car might have been going into production when the customer cancelled).
Audi has stated that they are producing A5 and S5 in low volumes intentionally but there is lots of speculation on whether they are having production problems, etc. But it makes sense that demand is high as they are excellent cars.

Of course I'm guessing, but realistically you would probably have to wait between 3 - 6 months. My S5 is arriving Monday and I waited 7 months (or more..) but I ordered a custom color which slowed it down a bit. Otherwise I would already have it.

But yes as TScarguy stated, allocations to a specific dealer is a factor as well.
I was told by a dealer that Audi had set out to production to produce 15% S5 and 85% A5s but as orders for S5s are atleast 20% higher than expected this is adding to delays. Also as has also already been mentioned they have had a few production issues.

They make much more $ selling these cars in China, the middle east etc. then they do here. It's strictly profit %, the US is just not getting the number of cars because they're making much more money selling in other countries.
aparikh, no one is sure what the delay is. Prudiction problems, dollar vs euro, limited availabiltiy of the 4.2LV8 or sunroof? Unless you slide into a cancelled order or pick one up on ebay you are looking at 6 months at least. I ordered in December and don't expect mine until June at the earliest. Lots of orders after mine. 2009 prodution will begin soon and price increase seems almost certain. I just hope mine goes into prodction before price increases go into effect.
Do you think that if you've agreed on a price with a dealer and you've put in an order, paid any deposit as required, and the order is in the system, that Audi can change the terms of the deal on an order at any time?

Has Audi done this in the past with other cars? (or has any other manufacturer attemped to change the price on a sold order, simply due to production delays pushing the car into the next model year)??

Seems like there would be a ton of outcry against this.

anything quoted during ordering is based off of MSRP. Therefore, if MSRP changes, your total price will change. Outcry doesn't matter, if you decide to pass on your ordered car after it is produced, due to the backlog of orders there will always be someone to step in and take it over from you. Sucks, but that's the reality.
I ordered mine last week (march 7th, 2008) and the expected wait time is 4 to 6 months.

It seems so many people want them, that the dealer allows me to back off from the deal anytime i want.

I think it might be the reality for this car - but it's no way to build brand loyalty.
So I see it will be a long wait for the S5....what about an A5 S-Line? Any wait there? Also what do you guys think of the 335xi or C300 Sport? Those are the other two cars I am looking at, and just wondering what your opinions are...thanks for your help. I sure do love the mean look of the S5 though, in the pictures on this forum, they all look BA
See this existing thread regarding opinions on the 335xi vs. A5:
