Has anyone noticed a grinding feeling when using the clutch? Sometimes I get it, sometimes I do not.

This may be a dumb question, but I noticed that the clutch can be pressed inward fairly deep...do you shift fast and a possible do not fully depress the clutch?? If it is consistent, I would consider taking it to the dealer for a look.

Not Grinding but mild vibration

Yes, its definetely there if only slightly - I notice it mostly if I change gears under high acceleration. Its only very subtle though on my S5.

I have a hunch that its the springs that dampen the clutch working - it almost feels like a very small vibration at the engine RPM.

If what you are experience is the same as me, I would not worry about it. I worry about lots of things like this, but this one does not seem abnormal.

Anyway, why not drop it in to the dealer - they drive lots of these cars so they should instantly be able to spot if something doesnt feel right.

Hope this helps

For the record, the dealer doesn't drive lots of these cars. We are the prized few that has them. Any problems are just as new to them as they are to us. Everytime I have been in the shop, my dealer has shown me that they have no idea what is going on with our car.

Thanks guys. I had a good drive today and at the start of both trips it is fine, however, after 5 miles or so, I get the same grind/gravel trpe of feeling.

Got a metalic 'clicking' sound when the pedal is released and now i've noticed it it's damn annoying.....feels like the pedal or actuator at the floor level is catching on something internally as it travels... mentioned it to the dealer who reported back they their demo S5 does the same... they are in contact with Group and will report back which of course when I hear you guys will too... (pedal isn't catching on carpet, we've been on our knees depressing the clutch with our hands and it's an internal issue)... anyone else got this ?

I absolutely have this issue. The pedal "grinds" and sticks. I haven't yet figured out the fix.

Hi Europa, it is in the dealership and they have found the problem and have the part on order. I will find out what it is and post some info.

Not sure if I got this correctly, however, as best I can make out, they have ordered a release burn and modified sleve. Anyone shed a bit of light?

Sounds like a slave cylinder, which isn't surprising, and could it read: "release bearing?" If so, that is a pain - the release bearing involves a lot of labour to remove and reinstall. Thanks, and keep us posted.

Will do. These guys have a different accent to me, so that could explain the mixup!

The factory sent over two already that wouldn't work, hense, the modified element. I think you are right about a lot of work as the guy said that my car was in pieces in the workshop.

Where in Europe are you from? Your name and spelling of 'labour' give you away :)

Oh, geez... this does not sound good at all. Hopefully, they'll develop a TSB on the issue so we can all get this fixed correctly. The sticky clutch pedal drives me nuts!

Heh... I'm actually not from Europe at all - I'm in Seattle, USA... but originally from Canada, hence, the proper spelling of "labour." The name "Europa" came years ago when I signed up for AudiWorld... I work in finance, so I thought it'd be clever to spell Europa as "€uropa." For continuity's sake, I haven't bothered to change the name.

They changed the throwout bearing on mine, took 3 weeks....(2 weeks for the part to come)...According to the dealer, a lot of S5 have this issue.

Interesting. How is it running now and has it made any difference to before when it was working fine?

Well, I could not shift anymore, so yes it definitely feel better now. However, the gearing still feel a bit notchy, but clutch works like a charm!

Argh... It's excellent that there's a (potentiallly) identified fix, but the R&R time (and complexity) is not excellent.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Update from AudiWorld: it is the throwout bearing that is causing the clutch vibration issues. http://forums.audiworld.com/a5/msgs/31874.phtml
Thanks.

My car will be in 3 weeks on Monday!
Really starting to get on my nerves - lucky I'm on hols at the moment, but they don't think I ill get it back till the end of next week. They said that there was a problem getting the parts, but I think that it is totally unacceptable - Any thoughts?
