I’ve had an Audi A5 1.8 with a manual gearbox from new for just less than 4 years and done 38k miles.
When driving recently, I suddenly wasn’t able to change gear and broke down by the roadside. Had to be towed back to the garage.
The Audi inspection revealed a broken clutch plate, a broken spring which had trashed the gearbox and Audi presented me with a £5200 bill. They pointed out excessive heat marks on the components and despite admitting to never having seen this type of damage before said there was no defect and I had to pay the whole bill in full.
There seems to be other A5 clutch related issues on this forum and so I was wondering if I should accept this as simply wear and tear? This amount of damage on such a low milage Audi makes me think wear and tear can’t be justified.
I look forward to some comment and advice.
