On occasions, I have noticed a 'clunk' from the rear when applying the brakes at low speed. I thought that there might have been something rolling around in the spare wheel well - nothing there. It doesn't happen all the time  and I was wondering if it might be connected with the handbrake as I certainly notice it after I've pulled away from being parked. Any thoughts?

I hear it too every now and then. It also happened on my Audi 80 and TT and the 2008 A4 loaner i was given last week. It must be a typical Audi thing.

Doesn't happen here. Have you checked around the rear for anything loose? Have a look in where the amplifier and DVD Nav unit is.

clunk

the front brakes of our toyota clunk too mainly when changing braking direction. Guess it might be the pads moving in the caliper/carrier.

Thanks for the replies guys
. I took the car into the dealer today and had the winter wheels taken off and replaced with her summer wheels. The mechanic couldn't find anything amiss and, touch wood, I haven't heard the clunk so far
- yet!
