If chrome the only thing I use is autosol, although I've found brake parts cleaner or wd40 help soften / dissolve the carbon build up and any tar.

Afterwards I follow up with a ceramic wax or high quality polymer wax to ease cleaning.

For alloy tips I use a very fine steel wool with autosol and some wd40 mixed in, followed by a final polish with autosol... Then a good wax.

I use alloy wheel cleaner with general maintenance wash.

I have the stainless inner with carbon fibre outer sleeves, so doesn't get those nasty black hard deposits on them like the chrome tips/OE tips.

Got them off Ebay, Akrovic or what ever it's called copies.

Need to find a good pic of them.

I use the superfine steel wool (grade 000) on my akra tips and the stock S3 8p ones and it comes up a treat.
Even if it's not been done for years, the wool should remove the grime.

Basically like these, and they just clamp on, providing you have the correct bit of stub pipe out of the back box.
