hi all,

a colleague of mine was selling his cat d a5 3L coupe as the engine light came on and was in limp mode..

Quick scan later showed it was the dpf causing issues.. so I offered him £1000 cash collection at the weekend, I now find myself owning a silver 58 plate a5 which I can’t lie is just a lovely drive and a lovely place to be..

only owned the car a week and I’ve fully detailed the interior which was in such bad shape It took 3 days alone to sort, removed the dpf sorted that and refitted which took about 3/4 hours in total and got it mapped, now running about 290/300hp all I need to do now is source a pair of bumpers and paint from the swag line done which me and a friend are doing next bank holiday and it will then be mint! Also fitted a set of new hid bulbs.. I’ll try to remember to take pictures as I go and fill you all in 🤙🏻

Reading into it abit it looks like the gears inside the throttle are wearing and don’t allow it to close fully so throws up a fault, I’m going to order a new actuator and go from there! I’ll keep you filled in!

Yeah bud it’s a cat d, but I’m fixing all the wrongs at the moment.. picked up a s-line rear bumper this evening for it I’m hoping I can swap over my none s-line diffuser into it as it’s got the cut outs for 2 exhausts, do you know what the difference is between the two as they seem to look the same?

So after a couple weeks of collecting up parts I decided to start fitting them and changing some bits over..

started with changing all interior lights to led along with changing the pollen filter and air filter which looks like the old owner didn’t care to do..

then fitted a egr blank and replaced the shutter valve (throttle body) to try and solve the fault code the cars throwing up but just now need to get it plugged in and the codes cleared hopefully solving the issue.. next is a oil and filter change plus a fuel filter then to still look for a rear diffuser and new front bumper and off to paint!

Question for yas: when you purchase a Cat D car, can you have her inspected when you have made her better and have the Cat D label removed?? Or does it stay on for ever??

The label can never be removed and normally cat d can be something minor like even when the heated seats and steering wheel if it costs too much it could make it a cat d, but I think cat c needs an inspection or maybe cat b to be allowed back on the road after the repair

So update..

Brought a code reader and cleared all the codes to do with the throttle body, it worked a treat and cars back running mint! Now I’m just on the look out for a rear sline diffuser like this..

So spent this weekend finally getting the last bits done on the car before using it!

changed the oil and filter along with a diesel filter and sorted out two patches of mot welding on the front sills where someone’s clearly jacked the car up wrong a split the out sill and left it to create holes.

Cut a larger section out of the outer sills to start with making sure to remove all rust, ground away anything on the inside covered in weld thru primer and then filled the sill with wax oil all along, covered the plate in weld thru as well and welded it in then covered in primer, stone chip and just a simple wheel silver as will colour match later on when I paint the whole car hopefully in the next month or two!

After about a 7 hour round trip I collected a full black headlining, abc pillars and all extras and for what ever reason I decided to fit it the next day in the boiling heat trapped in the car! So out with the awesome cream roof and in with a nice clean black!
