A few of you probably wondered what it has taken me so long......to attach a random piece of ABS plastic to my pride and joy to keep the decals company.

Well, fret no more. Having taken delivery on Friday of my new rear spoiler from Caractere (http://www.caractere.com), supplied and painted courtesy of UK distributor Road and Sport developments (RSD), I fitted it it today and here's some pics.

The Missus made the usual comment 'That's why they're called 'spoil-ers' - oh, and and you're such a chav' but I have to say, it works pretty well - probably better in the flesh than in the pics, reasonably subtle but 'toughening-up' the rear end and adding to the sense of purpose created by the quad pipes.

Spoiler-fitment tends to split opinion - you either love 'em or hate 'em and I know that really, I should let well alone. There's nothing wrong with the A5 rear end that the S5 bootlid alone didn't cure. But it's done and really, the rear now has far-improved 'f*ck-off-ability' about it.

Right, guess it's Spinner's brake mods next, then probably some 20"s. Is there an end to all this?

Thanks Reb - I'm a bit surprised - expected a tirade of abuse and castigation! To your question, nope, it's made from lightweight ABS and bootlid still pops up with its usual vim and vigour.

Re. yesterday, all of my own doing I'm afraid. Had a rare Friday night pass 'cos the Home Secretary was supposed to be out (in the event, she was unwell so stayed in - I didn't...) and spent it in the pub on one of those bizarre nights where nothing is as it seems.....

Saturday dawned, I was in the spare room, upside down in the bed and it was 10:30 am. Son had phoned about 10 times to find out where I was (how paradoxical is that? Number of times I've turned up to collect him and been unable to drag him out of his cave...).

Was in terrible distress so persuaded him to get off my case for the day whilst I concentrated on me. Didn't feel a lot better this morning so cancelled our proposed reccy trip to Bristol Uni and instead watched the GP with him. Think he's just about forgiven me. Missus is clearly just resigned to it.

Anyway, excuses out of the way, was disappointed I didn't make it. Your Milltek looks awesome (for some reason, seems to look even better on a silver car?) and I was very much wanting to see Spinner's brakes in the flesh/metal.

Hope you're pleased with the mods - sounds like you are, and the car at least has the squat stance and sense of pupose - it's looking good!

Phew. I'm getting a few 'not bads' and a few 'kinda likes'. Dunno why you guys opinions are important to me but guess they are!

Mind you, I'll be seeing Spinner/Ian on Weds and that's when the flak will start to fly. S'pose if I give it, I gotta take it.......

"will an A5 boot-lip spoiler fit on a S5?" I've been looking at the Caractere spoiler as well but until now thought it couldn't be done. By the way, did you consider the Abt boot-lip spoiler?
It's a good question and one I asked the supplier. There's just the one version for the two cars - essentially, it's moulded to the 'S' bootlid and on the A, which has a less-defined lip, there's just more air underneath once fitted.

I did originally look at the ABT piece, which was released first, but I think the three-piece approach looks a bit 'fussy' - plus I think the Caractere unit looks better on a car with no other adornment. If you went the ABT route, I feel you may have to balance the impact with front apron/side skirts.

Thanks for the feedback!

AWP, to answer your question - not cheap! About £450 supplied and painted - I didn't charge myself for the fitting.......

Hey Ess... All you need to do now is to swap the 4.2 V8 for a 1.8 4-pot and the conversion is complete! ...all bar the wheels that is... they're still far too stylish and sophisticated... need some chrome or gold on there... or red!!! ;)
Ah, Ian! Wondered when you'd be along......

thanks for the tips mate - rest assured, I'm working on 'em!

LMFAO!

I thought the ride in was a bit bumpy this morning!

Fitting was a (relatively) simple process - the item was supplied with some P1 bonding agent (messy black stuff that goes off pretty fast!). You simply apply it sparingly to the outer edges of the mounting side of the spoiler, position it, fix it down (I used duck tape across the bootlid) and wipe off excess sealant with white spirit before it dries. Best to leave it taped down overnight otherwise your outer edges will start to lift....

Can't remember where I got the graphics - online, obviously. Think it was either Vipergrafix or Demon.

I appreciate that I'm meeting with some appreciation - I've become accustomed to my Chav-tastic modding tendencies being the object of A5OC derision - so good to know it's not all universally hated! :D

Hey, I couldn't find the decal on either of those sites that you mentioned. Let me know if you can remember where you got that from. Thanks a lot.
Hi Andrew, I've had a search around but can't be certain of the original source. Pretty sure it was one of these two but that they've been discontinued. If you do a google search on 'Audi rings decals' or Audi decals', it will throw up a number of sources, although most of these tend to be for the 'solid' rendering of the rings, not the '3D' version which appealed to me most.

Thanks Jen, that's much better. AWP, I've made the ordering easier for you too - simply send £500 (or local equivalent, cash only please, used notes, includes postage and packing) to:

P.O. Box ESS5IVE
England

And they'll see that you get it. Would you like it painted? What colour?

Always I have had such spoiler, the back of the car has been more dirty than with no spoiler. What about this on your car?
Hi C99, haven't really noticed a difference - the design of the S5 seems to promote an accumulation of road grime on the rear before the rest of the car gets messy - not sure the spoiler's made this any worse.
