Bye Bye 1.8 TFSI, and hello another 2.0 t (180bhp)

Just read the following over on the A5 forum on tyresmoke.net

'A second 2.0T has been announced (180ps) which Audi regard as a straight replacement for the 1.8T (final orders 31/7). I can see why they've done this given the improvement re. 211ps 2.0T. This new 2.0T is only FWD in man/auto and is 175 GBP more than the 1.8T.'

Anybody know anymore?

Ordered my 2.0TFSI Sport last Saturday:D.

I've ordered the new 180bhp 2.0Ltr (CO2 emissions 154 g/km) which I've been told will be replacing the 1.8T. I was told that no more orders will be taken for the 1.8T after 31st July............it is apparently going to drop of the Audi menu in the UK.

Have ordered Phantom Black, Milano Grey Leather, 19" Y spokes and Xenons with a few more toys!!!

Unfortunatley the new 180bhp wont be rolling off the production lines until January 2009. I was not looking to replace until November anyway and think the extra 2 months will be worth waiting for the 2ltr.

A long wait until delivery.....but hey......something to look forward to:)
Wow, that is one hell of a wait, i don't think i would be able to wait 6 weeks let alone 6 Months :)

I'm sure it will be well worth the wait !!!
Cheers Glenn - I'm sure it will be worth the wait! Decent CO2 for a petrol motor, and it wont be far off the speed of the more expensive 211bhp. Wonder if Audi will pop it into any other models soon.

Theres probably about a dozen variants of the 2.0TFSI engine by now!

Did you find out from your dealer? These things just leak out before you know about it officially. Also, any idea on the mpg on this engine?

Cheers.
I wonder how much we can get out of the 2.0 TFSI 180ps with a remap. Maybe it has the same engine components as the 211ps (turbocharger etc..)
Bobster,

A5 brocure has now been updated on the audi web site. Follow the link on the page I've attached (under related lincs pirce and spec guide):-

http://www.audi.co.uk/audi/uk/en2/new_cars/A5/a5.html

Fuel economy looks decent

Urban = 31.9mpg
Xtra Urban = 54.3mpg
Combined = 42.8mpg

As I say decent:)

Cheers

Thanks for that. I was looking for info on the 2 different 2.0 engines for a while.

The 180bhp does 0-60 in 7.8 and has 320Nm of Torque
The 211bhp does 0-60 in 6.9 and has 350Nm of Torque

Mpg and Co2 emissions are the same.

The 211bhp engine is about €5000 dearer here though. The 180bhp version is starting to look a touch more attractive now. (Although that opinion could change 100 times before i order one next month :D)

What do you guys think - 180bhp or is €5000 worth it for the 211bhp version ?

I hear the 211bhp is coming off the production lines in Aug and the 180bhp in Jan. Is this correct. I want delivery of mine in Jan so as long as there is no delays that shouldnt be a problem (If that info is correct)
If the only difference between the 211ps model and the 180ps is the ECU software there is no need to buy the 211ps. Because then you have 240ps easily with a simple remap in both models.
The 211 bhp 2.0 TFSI quattro does 0-60 in 6.5 s, a fair bit quicker than than the 180 bhp variant. Each to their own I guess.
I ordered 2.0 180ps which costs over 40000€ in Greece. Another 30ps cost
another 5000€. Is it worth it? In my opinion..hell no!! :)

Thanks a lot again Glenn - I'd just received in the post from Audi the latest brochure i requested. Silly me but it was out of date already!
Great news folks. Any news on the Cabriolet? I'm getting impatient!

Nope totally different engines...but u could get 200 bhp out of the 1.8T with a re-map.

But then u could also get 240bhp re-mapping the 2.0T.

Im not sure if you understood my question :p

Im saying that there is two versions of the new 2.0 TFSI (forget the 1.8 TFSI) one version with 211ps and one version with only 180ps.

Since the CO2 and mpg figures are the same i suppose they consists of the same engine components. And the ECU software is the only difference :)
I've just heard the same information as Glen from the dealer we're using.

I've had an order for a 1.8 since May with an expected build date for 1st week in sept. My boss spotted that there was a new 2.0T on the Audi web site for an extra £175 yesterday. A quick phone call to the dealer and they have cancelled the old order and I’m now scheduled for 2.0T 180PS in Jan.

I would have been absolutely gutted had I got my 1.8 and then found it was discontinued! Changing to the 2.0T is going to save 3% on company car tax as well asthe benefits mentioned above. Seems like a no brainer to me if you have the opportunity!
wow I thought my wait was a long one July to January 09......but May to January 09..............I do however recon it will be worth it.

I'm going to have to stop thinking about it ...........its driving me mad :p

Hope the January date is the latest for both of us and we dont get any slip in the timescale.

Happy waiting ....................apparently looking forward to it is the best bit.......thats what my daughter recons............but i'm not so sure. I just know when it arrives it will be the biz!!

Glenn
I'm not that patient at the best of times but that is one hell of a wait!

I know there is a nice present at the end of the wait but it still seems an eternity!

You need one of those countdown clocks like they have for the Olympic countdown, on your fireplace so you can wish it hear quicker!
Thanks for the vote of sympathy guys.... yeah it is a long wait and I'm trying not to count the months! I never thought i would be able to afford one so im just counting my blessings at the moment. :)

I don't know if anyone else has noticed though, but Audi now have the A5 configurator back on their website with the updated 2.0 petrol engines.

That seems to have caused extra confusion in my order because, if you compare the brochure with the configurator, they seem to have posted the On The Road price as the RRP. Inevitably, that means when you get your final price, the OTR addition has been added twice.

My consultant is working with Audi to get the correct price and I'm hoping to hear back today, but in the mean time Glen, can you confirm that you only paid £175 more for the 2.0 180ps over the 1.8T .

Thanks

I paid about £1500 more when I swapped from 1.8 to 2.0T(FWD, 211PS); however that still appears to work out better than current pricing so it looks as if there may have been some pricing adjustments since I swapped. Part of my increased cost was being forced to have voice control on the sat nav; whereas on the 1.8T this was an option (that I had not chosen). There is also confusion over the xenons as the press release states that they are standard on the 2.0T but infact they are not according to the price list.
Whoops just realised that you are talking about the 180PS variant (this was not available when I swapped) and was only recently introduced in the UK to directly replace the 1.8T. So I guess the price differential that you quote is about right!
