Hi All, wondering which chnage to do to my stock RS5 exhaust to just give a bit morer volume. Dont want or can afford to but a full system so looking at Resonator Deletes, or X Pipes to keep the stock tailpipes with valves.

Dont really want to cut my stock exhaust so are there any x-pipes or de0res pipes which are a direct fit?

Ok so no comments or views. Does anyone have an exhaust for an RS5 V8 they want to sell?

Most RS5s will have things like Miltek, Akrapovic, AWE etc ie done proper, if you were wanting to try something on the cheap, add a vac tee to the exhaust valves to keep them open and goto a local exhaust shop and ask about a pair of straight through resonators to replace the centre muffler (similar to tampa mod done on the 3.2 TT., Last thing you want is drone.

Check out you tube clips for rs5 and s5 v8 to see and hear what others have done, take note of the exact resonators and pipes they have used.

Thanks, just what I was after. I did look at the Darkside pipes and thought they might be the right thing for me. And good to hear there is no drone and it goes back to quiet on economy. I’ll look into it further.

oh one question, do the original pipes need to be cut to fit these?

Thanks.

Straight fit for me, no cutting of original exhaust, it’s made as a direct replacement part. I could re-install the original downpipes if I wanted as I have kept these in case I need to return to 100% stock.

The OEM back boxes have Helmholtz chambers in them, so even if you remove the small silencers in the downpipes, the Helmholtz do a good job of removing drone.

I only have back boxes on my 3.0 S5, but have V8 non res downpipes and V8 back boxes modified with remote valves.

The valves in the OEM RS5 back boxes will do a good job of removing drone as well and extra noise.

Nice one thanks. I’ve gone for a res delete on my RS5 being fitted as we speak. So hopefully I’ll get the volume I want with no drone. Fingers crossed! Cheers n

I can only vouch for downpipe res delete on a V6, but it give a bit more volume and a bit more bark. I actually noticed a slight reduction in deep tone, but without swapping back, it could be placebo. :)

Just had the darkside pipes fitted. To be honest other than it being a cleaner less muffled sound, it’s not much louder. And in Comfort I’d says it’s quieter! So not really sure it was worth what I’ve spent on it but I’ve only driven it once so we’ll see.
Neil,
My non-res Darkside Downpipes definitely opened my exhaust from the get go. Quiet was still quiet but dynamic gave greater volume and exaggerated downshifts and crackles. My RS was specked with the factory ‘sports’ exhaust when new if that’s made any difference too? The more I drove with the non res downpipes the more I felt they bedded in.

Yes as Mr Fergus says, is the exhaust standard or sports? Could make a difference!

But as I said before it added a bit, but not a lot. If you are looking for a 'good' increase in volume, then centre silencer delete would add more volume. The silencers in the downpipes are only small so won't make a big difference.

Exhausts are subjective and they do also change tone slightly with miles.

Hi all just thought I’d feedback on this for if anyone else is thinking of doing it.

Had the Darksdie Res delete fitted for a while now. My first thoughts were that it didn’t really do anything other than change the sound, more raspy, clean and less muffled. Comfort was even quieter than stock! So was a bit disappointed tbh.

That was until I disconnected the valves open! OMG! Normal driving is a bit droney and wife has noticed! 🙄 but still quiet enough to drive slowly with just more of a hint of V8 burble. But when you open it up it’s savage! Seems more responsive but maybe that’s just the sound. Gear shift farts are totally different and tbh sound way better. Get up to redline and my god it’s epic!

The only bit I (and my neighbours!) don’t like is the cold start. Sound terrible, tinny, loud and just not good but I suppose that’s more the fault of Audi for making it start like that! It’s only for a few seconds obviously but that has Lao been noticed by the wife! Oh well!

So overall, it is a lot money to spend on a couple of pipes but they are direct replacement, are superb quality, went on well according to the shop and can be removed when you sell. But for the money I’d say it’s well worth it.
