What a day! Collected my S5 today and Wow! Difficult to be concise. What a car, absolute class.
The Good - Superb engine, just enough growl to let you know its there and willing but nowhere near as harsh as an M3 or a 911.
The Suprising - Almost everyone stopped and looked at it as we drove past Male AND Female. One car drove round the roundabout 3 times looking at it as we sat there laughing. Girls stopped in the street, lads outside boozers on the phone just stopped and stared. My wife was in histerics! Some guys even pulled alongside at 60mph and said how fab the car was. Women loved the lines and the Meteor Grey colour- ooh isn't lovely, The guys were more vocal and ' i want one' and 'doesn't it sound good!' We couldn't believe it.
The not so good - Fuel economy. If you worry about this then buy a 2.0TDI. I averaged 12.7 today.
The bad - Back seat space. Both my young sons had NO legroom in the rear with 2 adults in the front (but they still loved it???? Not a prob for me as i am the only one in the car for 99% of the time. Limited storage so go for the extra net thing in the boot. SAT NAV brilliant but Bass response of standard stereo (despite subwoofer) is limited.
All in all, if some B****** nicked my car off the drive tonight would I buy another...........Yes, absolutely.
Its not practical, its not frugal, its quite intimidating but F*** it, its puts a LARGE smile on your face, everyone one loves it, Boy it goes (and goes well!) and it doesn't have the arrogance of a BMW or the smugness of a Mercedes.
I Love it. Its Emotive and a Coupe should be exactly That!

ergh... 12.7? MILES PER GALLON?! thats really really terrible. but were you driving around town or out on highway roads? if it was a lot of stop and go im not surprised but if it was a lot of cruising... this could be a big problem for me. i dont want to fill up my car every 200 miles, thats just stupid.

were you driving it real hard since it was the first day? :)

i want a 400 mile tank. basically to be able to go from my home here in LA to my school in san jose on one tank!

Mpg

Madmax, any improvement on your mpg, your average worries me. I took the 3.0 tdi out yesterday and apart from a wee bit of lag, the performance is impressive with a serious boost from 2000 rpm and up. However, and here is the crunch, the noise of the S5 is awesome and coming from my current M3 is a big deal. But the mpg ???
Would be good to get an update from you.

Cheers

Rich

200 miles on and the current average (all trips) is nudging 20 MPG. With the loosening of the engine and getting used to the car I'm sure that 20+ is probable. You cannot get V8 sound and performance for much more than this?
Yesterday was spent in town and on normal roads, enjoying the sound and pull of the MONSTER under the bonnet.

Still lovin it!

BTW i read a review on www.audiworld.com and must say that they describe it perfectly. And yes, you can cancel the gear shift indicator.

Just completed 36 hours since pick up. Agree with all your comments..I have the B+O system, so sound is awesome...getting 19mpg but expect (hoping!) this to improve. I live in the country so lots of crnering...early signs ae promising. The greatest assets are the fab looks more M6 than M3.

Thats it??

You guys just picked up your S5's and that all you have to say about it? What about the adjustable steering? Is it through the MMI? What does the difference feel like between the settings? How is the ride? How old are your young sons? 5? 9? 15? I ask because I have an 8 and 7 year old. They need to fit in the back. From what I saw at the NYC auto show the trunk looks fine for a family of 4 to get away for a extended weekend holiday. Please do tell us more than everyone looks at it and it gets crappy gas milage.

Or they don't have them. Not that I doubt they are telling the truth, but no pictures and they haven't said anything about something specific about the car. I knew everything they said about the car already. Talk to me about the adjustble steering? The new MMI interface? What makes it better? their experience with it? If the car came with 18's or 19's. S5 in the US are to only come with 19's.

It took me about 1 month to take pictures of my last new car.
Well I've still got at least 3 weeks then!

Can't help finding reasons to drive it/ clean it / talk about it. taking pics by comparison is boring. will get round to it soon
